Morning All,
Now the hot weathers here, I've been worrying about getting thunderflies in my monitor. Had them in my last one and they are a real pain ('specially when they decide to die in the middle of the screen). I'm on a new Dell U2410 and theres one of the little bas*****s crawling around the screen now. Anyone know of any deterrant...how to stop them getting in there in the first place (apart from taping up the vent holes, which may not be a good idea)
There must be some potion/chemical I can put round the screen that they don't like. Anyone else got a cure for this problem??

Here in France you can buy a non sticky fly repellent gel to put around windows and places you don't want flies (obviously) perhaps you can get a similar product in the UK? we also use flyscreens on doors and windows to stop the buggers coming in in the first place!
I hope your new lodger escapes or at least dies somewhere discrete!!!
 
Can always open it up. It's an inconvenience, sure, but there will be plenty of guides on youtube if you are struggling and it's very, very easy.
 
Its some sort of repellent I want, stop them getting in in the first place. There must be some sort of plant/plant extract that they don't like. David, no probs dismantling the screen, but would'nt want to do it on a daily basis!! OK for the end of the season, but I need a clear screen now. I've read a good tip through Googling - turn the monitor off and let it cool, leave a light on near the screen and hopefully the flies will migrate to the warmer heat source. Might try that tonite.

lol, ive got a Dell U2410 , i spotted one last week walking around behind the screen, no idea where hes gone, least he didnt die on a visible bit :)
 
....found another good hint. If ones already died (and you haven't already sqaushed it!!!) get a small sucker (1" diameter) stick it to the screen , carefully so you don't squash it, and pull the screen cover slightly away and hopefully the dead un will drop to the bottom.
