Tight budget. - as always

I'm looking to add a lens to my kit lens on a Nikon D3100, have been looking at Nikon 55-200, is there much difference between this one and the VR version and would I really get the benefit of VR on that length?

Other option has been Sigma again with and without OS on it, or Tamron 70-300.

Any advice welcome.

Budget not massive but could poss stretch to £100, so what's the best one to look at.

I have the 55-200 vr one and for 200mm photos I would say yes for VR unless you are going to be using a tripod all the time.

What is you budget? Do not rush and buy the non vr one only to regret it.

There really is no reason not to get the VR one, you can get it so cheap if you look around and VR is really very handy at 200mm.

The 55-200 VR is £119 at Amazon if you want new if you want used keep an eye on the cclassifieds where you may say about £20...

Well ended up going for Sigma 50-200 with OS so hopefully will be fine.
