Tight budget: reflector or circular polarizer?

Hi everyone Assuming I have no other equipment and I only have the budget for one or the other, do you think it's a better idea to get a reflector or a circular polariser?

And if you all say a reflector, what size would be good for fashion, model, and people portraiture from headshot to full body portraits? Thanks for the help and knowledge

You need to specify what most of your photography is of. If you focus on photographing people in staged situations then a reflector is pretty invaluable and equally if you photograph landscapes a lot you would be a lot better off with a circular polariser.

Reflectors can be had for a tenner off ebay but decent polarisers will set you back upwards of £50. Not really sure I really understand how it can be a one or the other situation.

You can DIY a reflector for the price of a bag of chips.. afaik no way yet to DIY a circular polariser.

But as Jamie has said, it's horses for courses and I can't see the comparison really, they do very different things.

If you're shooting people, a reflector will be much more beneficial. Buy it off ebay too, I got my 150cm 5 in 1 reflector from there for £15.

The one you got from eBay is what brand? Is it good quality? I've been trying to look for a reflector that has white, translucent, silver, silver/gold mix, and black. I don't want a gold side as the silver/gold mix would be sufficient for me. I've had no luck in finding one with these specs within my budget. Any ideas or places? Thanks

What good is a translucent reflector?

Edit: Just googled it and I see they're used for diffusing strong sunlight. Learn something new every day :)

any of the 105cm '5 in 1' ones on ebay for about £15 will be good :)

the gold is surprisingly useful for chucking a bit of warmth onto people's face, the silver is very very harsh.

I think he means as a diffuser....
