Time for the steelo to clean my sensor

Yes
Maybe I havent been eating my weetbix, but I cant seem to shift the dirt on my Canon 450d sensor.

I have run my rocket blower over it a few times (giving it about 6 blasts each time).

I went to Jessops to pickup some swabs and Eclipse fluid but they didnt have them in stock (said they had to be bought in especially).

The guy was helpful though and reccommended I use a Lenspen (which a mate of mine swears by too). He gave me a demo on how to clean a 450d with a lenspen, starting on the outside edge and going around until you end up in the centre and then blowing it again with the Rocket Blower.

Anyway, I have spent a bit of time trying to clean it but doesnt seem to be shifting the dust. (or if it is doing anything it looks like it is just moving it on the sensor.

Am I expecting too much? Am I being too fussy? Have I been duped and do I need to pay mega bucks for a different cleaning system (hope not!).

Here is the state of the sensor before I used the Lenspen:

The Lenspen sensorKlear is great BUT eventually you get to a point where only a wet clean will shift the crap......

Wet clean beats the lenspen hands down for me

Jessops near me never have sensor cleaning swabs in stock!!!

FITP has some swabs for sale. Find his add on the home page (bottom) or in the advertisers threads.

Doh, so I should have gone with my instinct (and what I had read on the www) rather than believe the guy at Jessops!

He told me the wet system was not good as it left smears and that Canon use the Lenspen method!

Am a bit annoyed to have wasted my money.

lenspens are handy for cleaning lenses ;)

I should have avoided Jessops 'advice'.
I should have bought the sensorpen instead of the lenspen (or gone with what I had read on the www and bought the wet method) but he seemed so insistant that that was the way to go. :(

The SensorKlear by LensPen works fine for me, although in 14 months, I haven't needed to use it in my D700 (D70 gets grubby from time to time). Follow the instructions on the back of the pack, including #7 - if there's gunk that the SensorKlear hasn't shifted, use an approved wet cleaning method.

Before I came across the SensorKlears, I used one of the wet methods and ended up with a lovely smear across the sensor - first pass with the SensorKlear cleared it immediately.

Personally, I treat the SensorKlears as a one shot solution and after their use as a sensor cleaner, I relegate them to phone screens, LCD screens and compact lens cleaning duty. I got a few of them at a very good price from 7dayshop a while ago and still have a couple left as yet unused.

If the assistant sold you a LensPen rather than the SensorKlear, take it back and get a refund - the LensPen is for lenses. The SensorKlear is shaped so it can get into the corners of the sensor and also (IIRC) uses a different medium on the tip.

Oops..sorry, it is the SensorKlear that I got and not the LensPen.
I must say that my first inclination was not to use something that would be used over and over and risk scratching the sensor. Should have trusted my instinct and gone with what I had originally set out to get: the swaps and eclipse fluid.
Thanks for your replies guys.

Borrowed a mates wet solution and the difference is now night and day.
The SensorKlear pen appears to do nothing while the wet system really cleaned up my sensor well.
Thought you might be interested in the difference:

First pass with the wet system:

A couple of light spots at the bottom left but good enough.

A big improvement. Should have gone with my instinct and bought the wet system as i was going to do and not get talked into buying the pen. Would have saved myself £15.

And if you use your sensorklear now when you see a dust bunny you probably wont need a wet clean for another months
