Time to fiddle with my lens line up

I’m at that stage where I NEED to upgrade again. I’ve been saving my pennies and now comes the time to let it go, never an easy thing.

So why do I want to upgrade?

I’ve always liked the images from the 70-200 F4, but at times I feel it’s held me back from what I want to do rather than my generally woeful technique. I don’t use that particular lens a huge amount as for walking about I typically use the 24-70 F2.8.

However, I’m thinking of maybe casting the net out and shooting a wedding or two, nothing serious and not as a second career. I’ve already shot one and at the time hired the 70-200 f2.8 IS II which I liked, I’m also shooting a small wedding event for a friend in a couple of weeks, I quite like the challenges. Additionally a faster telephoto may help with wildlife stuff which I bob in and out of.

My current line up to go with a 5D Mark 3

• Canon 17-40 F4L
• Canon 24-70 F2.8L
• Canon 70-200 F4L
• Canon 85mm F1.8

I’m could consider dropping the 17-40 as I don’t feel comfortable at really wide angles.

So my options are as I see it;

70-200 F2.8 IS II or the Sigma 35mm & 50mm Art combo. I do like the punch and sharpness of the fast primes.

Of course I welcome opinions outside of what I have suggested.

Wildlife you want longer, say the 100-400, or 400 prime.

With my 5D mk3 I have,
Samyung 14mm
Canon 24-105mm
Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS
Canon 100-400mm
Canon 50mm f1.4
Canon 1.4x & 2x Teleconvertors

I find this covers everything I want to do/try

I like wide, 14mm manual focus is fun for street photography
I'd keep your wide angle, thats a versatile lens. I tried the 24-70 but found it too heavy and short as an everyday walkabout. 70-200f4 is a great lens, I have one, but the 2.8IS is much better, but also a lot heavier.

I don't need to shift the wide angle and its not hurting anyone so I could hang on to it.

Wildlife wise I didn't really consider the longer lenses as I could use a teleconverter with the 2.8 and not lose to much speed. That way I could use the 70-200 at weddings ect.

I must admit it's an option I sometimes use, 70-200 & 2x tc, just because of the weight and versatility.
If I know I'm mostly shooting around that range, usually people, then that would be the combination I use, however it's not quite as good as the 100-400 and the TC adds a length. For support you have to keep a hand on the tripod collar. For real length on the 5dmk3, i.e. wildlife, then the 100-400 with 1.4tc works well, and you can still autofocus at F8

70-200 at f2.8 does nicely isolate people though...
