Yes
Does anyone else find it sooo hard getting out with the camera?

Here's my reasons/excuses:
I feel to tired when I get home from work, there's DIY needing to be done!
(my house is starting to fall down around me!),
the kids need help/entertaining or dropped off/picked up!!!!:bang:

I have all these things that I would like to try, but just can't seem to get the time!
Anyone else have this problem, & if so how do you get around it?

every now and again i say "sod it" and b****r off on my own and let the rest of the clan fend for themselves.
usually saturday or sunday :D
they are starting to learn slowly but surely that my world does not revolve around theirs.
as for diy an chores, i play catch up once a year  usually after crimbo

im in the same boat as you spencer, just have to keep plodding on

I find it hard.

I am heavily involved with scouting. I run the unit for 14-18 year olds in the village I used to live in. That takes up a massive chunk of my time. Then there is the work around the flat. Spending time with my wife to be of course as well.

I am lucky in that Friday I finish work at half 12 so its not uncommon to see me around East grinstead with my Camera. I take my camera with me wherever I go at the weekends too. Its not so much the taking of the pics I don't find time for, its the sorting afterwards and PPing ready for posting etc. I have stacks of unprocessed shots!

I'm in much the same boat, snatching moments here and there when something presents itself. Occasionally trying out something different during a lunchbreak. I've not yet been able to run away from the family for a day just to go off a shoot piccies, although I might suggest that they are welcome to come with, but my reason for going is to shoot.

I only had weekends until I moved, now all my time is spent trying to do things around the house, easy and quick things like putting up cupboards seem to take me ages and I end up spending so much time doing that I just don't seem to be getting out at the moment. Give it another month and all the holes will be filled, painting done and settees sitonable so I can play pictures again :D

The biggest thing that stops me taking photos is knowing i have loads on the computer to process, then the camera just sits there mocking me :(

On the plus side this prevents me from leaving the processing undo for to long:)

The other thing that stops me from doing any processing is I manage to convince myself most of the time that they are all total trash and not worth it!

WOW yeah thats me too, unless I suddenly get the challange from Edinburgh Gary! and nothing else matters, off we go out to take random shots,
however normally in the early evening once kids sorted
or when we go for a "family walk" (so the wife can watch the kids)

Same boat as most of you starts work early finish late it took me 6 weeks to sort out my holiday photos. Mind you there was 3000 to sort out. I tried getting the wife to take walks with me so I could take more pictures, but if there’s no shops she gets bored.

I tend to use photography as "me" time, so I make a point of heading out at the weekends when the weather is good, even if it's only in the local area.

The problem I hit is actually sitting down to process all the photographs. Because it's not away from the house, it doesn't seem to offer an uninterrupted period of time to be able to just sit and work on the images.

Perhaps I should move my office to the bottom of the garden?!

That said, I've cleared the diary for tonight so I can sit in front of the computer and process, process, process.

(Bet that plan goes to pot too!) :D

Not really but then again I am doing photography in college, I am off two days a week, I dont have children, i dont have any chores and I dont do DIY :)

Make hay while the sun shines...baby, its all down hill from here on out:)

Maybe thats the answer, just give a bit of notice & scoot of for the day!
Only trouble is I work most Saturday mornings & my daughter plays footie Sunaday mornings!!

im in the same boat as you spencer, just have to keep plodding on

Perhaps photographers should have a 36 hour day!

I know what you mean, I take my daughter training once a week & then to play on Sunday, the wife works 3 nights a week, so I look after the kiddies!

I do nip out at lunchtime, but I just end up sitting in traffic.

Thats probably the way forward, get all the DIY done in one go I suppose.

Same here!:

Now thats exactly the same thing I do, or maybe mine are trash!

Perhaps I need more motivation!
Michael

I go out at lunchtime, luckily I work in a semi-rural area so there is enough subject matter. Getting a bit bored with flowers in gardens though!
Look at my walkabouts set: www.flickr.com/photos/hotrods
A nice set Craft, whereabouts is that?

I'm always trying to think of somewhere to take the family where I can also take the camera!

Yes I know what you mean, I try to process late on an evening if possible but dont alway get the chance.

I'm just plain lazy - so I have no excuses.
Nope you dont.

You dont know how lucky you are!

Anyway thanks for all you're replies, much appreciated:thumbs:

Hey Spence - I am still trying to load some software that I got a couple of months ago...!
AS for the memory cards - they are slowly getting fuller of pictures that need editing/binning or just filing away - does it ever happen... ??
Sad thing is that I have been unable to work for the last 8 months, and still, despite all the time I am meant to have nothing gets done, bar posting on here about gear I can't afford to buy but dream of owning..

I try and make one day a week but I'm new at this anyway just it lasts Had a 350d and a 400d came up so asked the mrs did she want to have ago, on the plus side I'll had to buy new lens for my camera but we can share honest..

Oh good grief yes!

I'm currently working my backside off. 50-60 hours a week, Saturday meetings, Sunday travelling...........it's crap to be honest. This week I have had meetings in Liverpool on Monday after which I drove to Glasgow, meetings all day Tuesday and drove back to Manchester. Got home last night and out the door again this morning to go back to Liverpool. Away two days again next week, three days at the end of Nov, first three days of December............

The only solution for me is to take the camera to work with me. That way if I get a few minutes I can go for a wander with the camera. Mind you, I didn't even have time to eat today.

But I did come home to find my other half had gone and bought me not one, but two Monkehs!

I'm easy to please. :)

i don't get time working weekends and split shifts :(

i know what you mean mate.

i have my studio / garage 12 pace's from the house but only get out there now and again..

i have of late lost the fire in my belly . but due to a recent challenge TP3 see in the one of the forums challenge's and inspiraiton. i will have to get out or think outside the box soon.. you should try something like this...

md:thumbs:

Me too - shiftworking, spending time with my wife, daughters, granddaughter etc, although I don't do DIY ('cos I'm crap at it).

Can't wait to retire!

Can't afford to retire! b****r!!

I dont have time to do anything else because I'm always out with my camera. Priorities priorities :D

A nice set Craft, whereabouts is that?

Thanks, they're there for feedback really, so I can figure out how to do stuff better (especially high contrast scenes, which is my bug bear right now).

I work in Alton, between Winchester and Basingstoke. Some pictures in that set are from Royal Victoria Country Park which is a bit closer to home.

The answer to finding the time is to MAKE time.....and as for all those shots waiting to be PPd....if you have to think about whether it is worth keeping....chuck it out.

Go through and be really, reallyhard. It isn't about how many good photographs you can get from a session, it is about how good those photographs are.

One good shot is worth far more than a bucketful of almost rans.....so chuck away all those that might be OK. If it needs looking at to decide whether it is good enough - it isn't! A good one will jump out at you shouting for it to be filed.

Pm me when you are ready Steve & I'll walk you through it.
I also dream about upgrading, but the family budget wont allow!!:'(

I have been trying Dave, I going to try to allocate one specific evening per week to take the camera out, & enter all the TP comps.

Me too - shiftworking, spending time with my wife, daughters, granddaughter etc, although I don't do DIY ('cos I'm crap at it).

Can't wait to retire!

Can't afford to retire! b****r!!

You & me both!.

Kick a man when he's down!

Well after seeing you're images I took the camera out for a lunchtime walk today.

One of my biggest problems.

I went out and bought elements 6 and it might as well be in greek to me.

Greek, English is bad enough!

I probably am guilty of keeping all teh crap ones!!

Not really, I can take the time whenever. The trouble is though, I spend FAAAAAAAAAAAAR too much time on this bloody forum :D When I could be out shooting!

I cant say I really noticed Gary!

Take your camera to work. Stop off somewhere on the way there or back, or take a walk on your lunch hour.

Done it today!!!!!

Thanks all,

Spence

Likewise.

I was freelance and time rich/cash poor....No money for petrol to get anywhere, no money for gear.

I'm now cash better off/time poor! ARGH!!!! I have things to do and the money to do them but no available slots. And I'm not even married/Fathered up!

Maybe this is why the only successful togs are the ones who are single and have no life beyond the viewfinder?
