Timelapse mirror lockup

OK, so I'm thinking of trying some timelapse when I'm on holiday, so I bought a remote release with timer. So far had a little play and can get it to do what I want.

But... I was wondering if there is a way to use mirror lockup for the duration of the timelapse  I don't want to use liveview as it will get through the battery too quick.

Am I going to have to put up with a little bit of shake from the mirror?

Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly .... the mirror will only stay locked up for 30 secs then go back down. What remote did you get to do this?

Put the camera on its own self timer and enable mirror lockup. Use your remote timer release the trip the shutter at required intervals. Each time the remote releases the shutter the camera will first raise the mirror, wait for its own countdown timer to finish and then take the shot. The mirror will drop back and the camera will be reset, ready for the next release by the remote timer.

This is only practical if you are happy for your shots to be far enough apart that the self timer has time to run. e.g. if you want a shot every 11 seconds or more then no problem. If your camera has a short, two second, timer option then you should be OK with a shooting frequency as fast as once every 3 seconds or slower. I don't know whether the 550D has that option. My Canon cameras do, but I've never used an xxxD body so I don't know their feature set.

My 500D and Dad's 1000D both have 2 Sec timers so I'd imagine a 550D does too.

Its just a cheap one off of amazon. It can set delays, intervals etc, but its the 'shoot' one (I think)
