Hi guys

Had the pleasure of spending some time down at Tintagel in cornwall and took the opportunity to try out some landscape photography. I haven't really done any landscape before so was a fab experience venturing out on my own in the evenings to try and catch the sunset. Found myself wandering far longer than I wanted to try and find a good spot to set up. Must do a bit more research before heading out next time. Anyhow here are my efforts (with some help with photoshop (not for the purists)), hope you like. Happy to take any critique good or bad.

Thanks for looking

Rich :)

1 and 3 for me Richard. Love the tones of 1. 3 is very unusual and the people certain "make" the image. I like 2 and how punchy the contrast is but find myself getting drawn to your signature in the left hand corner. 4 and 5 don't do much for me but certainly 4 is better, 5 is a little boring IMO and the sepia tone doesn't help. Overall great, especially if you don't usually take many landscapes! :)

Jeff.

1 and 3 I particularly like!

3 is probably my favourite, it has so much going on. Foreground flora/rocks, people in the middle, stars and moon in the distance with the reflection on the water. Overall gives me that sort of feeling of insignificance you get looking at milky way shots, with the tiny people in the middle surrounded by and endless expanse of land water and sky.

4 and 5 are a lot less interesting to me, still nice shots though :)

1 and 3 for me though the lighthouse does look a little diluted and might benefit from bringing out more :)

Sorry double post due to computer glitch.

Like 1 and 2, but I am trying to work out how you have taken pictures, it's almost like you are looking east.
I agree, the direction of view is completely wrong for a sunset on the north Cornwall coast.
Plus, there are NO lighthouses near Tintagel.
The nearest lighthouse is at Trevose head near Padstow, some distance to the south-west and not visible from Tintagel.

I'd also question the size and relationship of the moon, which looks completely false (too large for a start, and in the wrong position in relation to the sun).
How much manipulation are we seeing here?

Hi many thanks for all the positive feedback :). I agree that the 4th and 5th image is a bit boring. I spent so long sat in that spot that I really wanted to make something of it, but just wasn't to be.

BrianG and lightshipman your suspicions about 1 and 2 are correct. I admire your knowledge of the area. As I mentioned these images are not for the purist and have had some photoshop work done to them. Hope it doesn't distract from enjoying the image (y)

It's not rocket science.
If you're on the NORTH coast and are looking North (out to sea), then West is to your left.
Unless something changed and I didn't notice, West is usually where the sun sets.
Your "sunset" is taken looking to the right - the East, where the sun usually rises.

Out of interest, where were 4 & 5 taken?, cos they don't look much like Tintagel to me either.

Guess not, thanks.

Yes 4 & 5 are most definitely taken at Tintagel. The images were taken facing the other side of where Tintagel castle sits, just across from the old parish church.:)

OK.
It's been a couple of years since I visited Tintagel and maybe I didn't get to that location, last time I was there I only went to the castle.
It just looked different to what I remembered with that big square looking rock.
I guess I must pay another visit next time I'm down that way, although I must confess I don't particularly like Tintagel itself.
This is the way I saw it (on a typical Cornish day).
Looking south-west towards Port Isaac.

The best thing about Tintagel is the pasty shop on the corner near the road down to the castle - Pengenna Pasties IIRC. I much prefer Boscastle as a village and Trebarwith Strand as a photographic location. St Nectan's Glen is worth the walk up the valley and the climbs down and back up to the falls. A bit tacky down there but there is a definite sense of serenity (you'll know what I mean by tacky if you go there!)

I'd agree with most of that, although I haven't used the pasty shop myself.
I think Tintagel suffers from being over-commercialised, part of the local "fleece the grockles" culture.

Grockles are Devon's tourists - the Cornish have emmets.

Actually, another of Tintagel's attractions (for ME!) is Granny Wobbly's fudge shop up near the roundabout.

Love No 3

The vapour trail just takes the edge off of no1 for me

Numbers 1 & 3 for me. 3 is my favourite though, it's superb!

Thank you James(y) Glad you like it. Funnily enough it was done on the same evening as images 4 and 5. It was literally the view behind me. I was thinking of heading home and saw the people come into view, swung the camera around and took a few shots.:)

I could have easily taken the vapour trail away but never occurred to me that it would distract. But now you mention it I can see that I should perhaps get it removed. Many thanks(y)

Love 1 and 2... quite like 3.

Thank you Jenny (y)

#3 for me, it's vibrant and full of mystery. I can imagine the two people could be smugglers waiting for the contraband

One day I'll get to Cornwall

Only live in Truro but never think of driving up to Tintagel.

Number 2 is stunning mate good work.

The first two are melting my brain....Sunset/rise on the same side of the planet as a full moon, rocks being lit that are hidden from the sun and lighthouses where they shouldn't be

Yes I know, adding the moon is a bit embarrassing. Massive oversight that will not be repeated on my future edits. Thanks for commenting (y)

Must have been an off day when I went; We holiday in Cornwall every year and I've eaten hundreds of beautiful pasties, but the one from that shop is the only one I've been disappointed in.
