So, after reading something on FITP's thread about cheap lightstands over on Amazon I decided to go check it out.

This is the listing

So, I ordered 4 of them. The image that accompanies the listing certainly implies that these light stands have a standard fitting on top onto which I could attach any standard item.

They just arrived today, and I've never seen anything like these before.

Anybody know if there's adapters out there for these so that I can actually use them? I've already E-Mailed the seller to say I'm not happy. No response yet.
 
I don't have any suggestions but the listing looks the same as the one I used, same price at the very least. The Konig stands I ended up with look like those on the right of your pic :thinking:
 
Use a Manfrotto 026 tilt-head brolly gizmo, removing the bottom adapter stud. The clamp screw that locks the adapter stud can then lock onto the spigot on your stand. The threaded end is a "refinement", that might not survive a bit of rough handling.

Sorry, I don't see how that relates to what I'm asking. The 026 still uses the type of light stand shown on the right of the image which is what I wanted, which is what I didn't receive. :)
 
You asked for an adapter so that you can use them. If you want to return them, do so :thumbs:
 
I asked for an adapter that turns the spigot on the left, into the spigot on the right.

I didn't ask for a brolly adapter for the spigot on the right, which is what the 026 is. The 026 still wouldn't sit on the spigot on the left.
 
If you're going to use them with brolly or softbox I'd suggest you'd want an adapter to angle your gear, and the Manfrotto 026 is one option for that task.

See my first response for how to attach the 026. It's the original, robust way of doing things.
 
You don't get it do you?

I ALREADY HAVE brolly adapters that fit on the stand on the right.

I need something that makes them fit on the stand on the left, which even the 026 doesn't.
 
IT DOESN'T SIT ON THE SMALL SPIGOTS, it's LOOSE, as it would be using an 026. How many times do I need to say this before you understand?

The base of the Manfrotto 026 fits a standard 5/8" spigot, or 1/4" or 3/8" screw with the supplied adaptor.

The stands I received today are NONE of these.
 
Never seen that fitting on a light stand before. Don't know of any adapter, though if there is such a thing it will be on the Manfrotto/Arri websites - massive range of stuff there.

I have a couple of the Konig stands and they are just like the pic in the listing, not like yours.

Nice photo BTW :D

Edit: looks like a bodge might be to cut off the spigot and go straight on to the shaft - size looks close - but I'd be annoyed too ;)

Funny thing is, they came up in the listings when I searched for Konig, but they have an "EXpro" sticker on them.
 
My tilt-heads will happily clamp down to about 5mm.
 
But they're not going to be steady. They're essentially just going to pivot around the bolt that's clamping them to the stand.

On the correct spigot, the wider areas at the top and the bottom are there to hold the base of the brolly adapter vertically. These are not on the smaller spigot, meaning it's not going to be stable.
 
Are your brolly adapters plastic? That could have a bearing on whether you can clamp them tightly enough. I don't think there'd be a problem with the 026 or its Calumet derivative. Using the top thread type of spigot runs the risk of the brolly being swung round and unscrewing the adapter.

I've got background stands that came with 10mm threads. To use them as heavier duty light stands I got my local Wallace & Gromit to make adapters.

Yeah, that's what I was expecting. The base of the spigot is seems much greater in diameter, as are all my other stands.

You haven't specified the size of what you've received, but in any case I'm sure that both solutions would work fine for any spigot of 5/8" or less.

If you don't in fact want adapters I'm sure others will thank you for the warning about these £11.49 light stands and you can return them for a full refund (including your postage costs) under the Distance Selling Regs.
 
Yeah, that's what I'm going to end up doing.

I contacted them via amazon, no response.
Contacted via E-Mail, no response.
Called them on the phone, was told to E-Mail. Told them that I had and the girl on the phone said I'd have to wait for a reply to the E-Mail.
 
Send them back - I ordered the same lightstands from the same place and they are as per FITP's image.
 
Well, the girl on the phone on Friday said I'd receive an E-Mail response by the end of the day. I didn't. I E-Mailed them again first thing this morning, still no response. So I just filed a complaint with Amazon under their A-Z Guarantee policy.

We'll see if that makes them react any quicker.

Sorry, I didn't see this before.

The photo has both stands right next to each other at the same distance from the camera. It may appear that the stand on the left is further back from the stand on the right, but they are indeed right next to each other. It's just much thinner.

I originally was looking into it, but it seems nobody's ever seen these types of spigots on light stands before. Thus, they have no adapter available, nor know of one.

Measuring your photo I guess the left hand spigot is larger in diameter than 3/8-inch, which was the "standard" until about 30 years ago.

This adapter may be suitable (but isn't availalable!).

As mentioned earlier, the threaded end is a refinement, and in the past the fitting would always be clamped to the spigot, which is mechanically better and doesn't rely on the threaded end remaining in good condition.

Good luck with the return. Unless you want particularly light and cheap stands, I think you should go for the taller ones rated for 6kg, with metal clamps.
 
It would seem so...

They've either sold out of, or removed this item. Which was a pair of light stands, allegedly Konig using the same photo as the listing for the light stands I bought.

They had these pairs for sale on Thursday when I ordered mine.
 
Possibly they have sold out. There has certainly been a flood of threads about them recently on here and I'm sure, the web being the web, that's been the same all over.

In defense of these Konig stands, they are one of the few real bargains I've bought recently. They are very nicely made, in a neat carry case, and I like the light weight. They still have a good enough spread on the legs for decent stability with most things, 15in radius compared to 20in from my bigger stands, and that's 5in less leg to trip over when I build a small forest in my front room.
 
The cheapest you can get them for now with a case is £22 which i'm a bit guttted about to be honest. I've just ordered two from 7 day shop for £26 but they don't come with carry cases.

If anyone knows where i can get a case for them please let me know!
 
Bummer, they didn't come from that same idiot on Amazon did they?
 
Yeah, express pro, that's the ones.

I ended up sending 'em back, ate about £17 total in shipping (the original cost to have them shipped to me, plus the cost to ship back to them, signed for, of course) as they wouldn't admit that the stands they sent me weren't the ones in the photo (which they clearly are not) shown on the Amazon listing.

Then I went to a seller on eBay and got the proper Konig ones.
