I have a bit of a "thing" for tripods.. no idea why but I do love a good, solid tripod!! I've known folks to spend many hundreds (and more) on an all singing carbon tripod only to use it solely for indoor shots. Unless you're going to lug a tripod around on a regular basis then carbon fibre really isn't necessary.
Now if you're into macro or small product type photography that you shoot mainly indoors, what I do find incredibly useful is a geared centre column. Now for the tip: I recently acquired an old GITZO CREMAILLERE 2. This tripod is old but it's also not overly heavy, has a superbly smooth and solid geared centre column with a lovely action for gently raising and lowering your camera, even in quite small increments and because it's a tripod that is overlooked by the crowds it can be had for £50-100. Get version 2 or 3, they're pretty much the same.
