Got the day off tomorrow ( 17,06,09 ) and heading up to London.
Although I know London fairly well to drive around, I dont know it from a photographic angle.

so some tips on things to look out for would be great, I like a bit of street but would also like some of the sights
Im taking a 50mm, 18-200mm, 10-24mm.
Im gonna catch the train up.

stuff I know:
House of parl
Buck Palace
the wheel thingy
London Bridge.

I have seen some pics of some silver looking spaceship things on the thames but dont know what they are or where they are. any ideas.

Thanks in advance

Expect to be hassled by someone in uniform! And don't lose your cool if you do. A lot of places although they SEEM public, are actually privately owned, and don't like photographers. The spaceshipy things are probably part of the Thames barrier.

Of course there's always the view of St. Paul's from the millenium footbridge for a bit of a clichéd shot! Just wander along the river, and you'll be entertained all day!

thanks chris

The Thames barrier is what I meant.

I,m ok with being hassled, got thrown out of the bodyworks show twice for taking sneaky pics.
still managed to change memory cards whilst the security were not looking, then pretended to delete the pics.

Hopefully a peaceful easy day tomorrow.

St. Pauls ->
Tate Modern ->
South Bank (Eye) ->
Westminster (Parliament, abbey etc) ->
Whitehall (Downing Street if you dare ;) j/k coppers are quite chatty there) ->
Trafalgar Square ->
Leicester Square ->
Piccadilly Circus

That's got most of the usual landmarks covered :) Whitehall's one of the more pleasant pavements in London to walk now it's been refurbished, nice and wide like NY so you don't get in everyone's way if you stop to take a shot.

Walking down the thames, the side of the eye, and less so on the other side, towards the tate modern, there's some really cool and under shot buildings :D

Another vote for the South Bank here. Start at Westminster Bridge and walk all the way down to Tower Bridge.

The "Knight" outside Southwark Cathedral is always a good shot, and if it's warm, all the people out at lunch time are good for a bit of "street"....
