There's some good tips on here already, mostly in the Talk Photography section although the search button may speed things up...

Main bits panning, panning and pannig (tutorial by one of the regulares in the tutorial section is good) 1/320 should give you some motion and take loads of memory cards. My first attempt was on Easter Monday from 600 shots had 4 I liked lmao...

Am sure one of the more experienced motorsport toggers will be along shortly :D

What camera and lenses do you have?

Motorsport - start with shutter priority mode (Tv Canon, S Nikon), continuous focus and set a shutter speed of around 1/250 - 1/320. Allow autofocus to pick car up early, follow and gently squeeze shutter when needed. Move around, but Luffield is a good place to start - the cars get closest here, and are travelling at sensible speeds.

Not sure what Sony calls its various modes but should be easy to find out. 70-300 lens will be fine, certainly at Luffield. I've not been recently but the construction works have meant that some shots have gone.

Walk round the circuit that is in use, and check other corners. Luffield is the safe bet.

Heavily fenced though(unless you're up in the grandstand, but then 300mm may be just a tad short), so get yourself as close to the fence as possible to try and eliminate it from your shots. Ideally with the end of the lens almost touching the fence itsself.

I'm down to Silverstone in a few weeks to shoot a friend on an experience day, so I'll have a poke about and see what changes they've made.

cheers, its going to be my first attempt so i will post some results and hopefully get some further advise

ive just been siverstone at the weekend for a car show and the grandstands are so far back from the track now everyone will need a massive lens, this thread is great help for me too as im going to oulton park on the 24th for drift and time attack
