Hi Guys, any useful advice about the Nikon D80?

A friend suggested using Centre weighted focusing rather than Matrix?

Dave

The Matrix metering mode has evolved to be very sophisticated and works well in most situations, I would just change it if I knew it was going to measure the scene incorrectly, such as very high contrast scenes.

Centre Weighted has been favoured by some very experienced photographers who have grown up with Centre Weighted metering mode from film days, and know how to read the scene and settings using that mode. For most people Matrix Mode is the way to go imho.

Leave it in matrix metering and dial in -.3 EV I always found the d80 overexposed slightly, in some situations it needed -.7 EV dialled in. HTH

I agree with the advice about metering that you've already had - matrix is good for almost all situations but it does tend to overexpose a tad.

My only bit of advice for someone new to the D80 is to keep the ISO as low as possible. With my D80, anything from ISO800 onwards demonstrates obvious noise - it's why I added the D90 to my collection :)

Otherwise it's a great camera ~ enjoy!

Hope that helps
