Yes
Internet connection went down yesterday at 3pm, phoned them up and after 90 minutes got through to the mothership in Mumbai. Asked the guy (called "June")when it was likely to come back on, "there is a fault -72 hours" was the reply.:annoyed:

Anyone know if Sky broadband is any good? Any other good isps to reecommend?

Hello mate,

Thats a b****r about your net connection!

I have had Sky BB for two years now, 8mb line as part of the surf see speak package. Its not gone down on me at all yet - touch wood.

My Router did go bust one me, within warranty, and had a new one in the post a couple of days after reporting it.

The calls to cust care have got alot better, the long waits are nowhere near as long now.

In all, I'd rate them, I haven't found reason to fault them yet...

Rob

but do you know why the connection failed? It could be that there's a problem affecting everyone connected to the local exchange - although the 72 hours quoted to you suggests not.

The provider regularly being commended for its UK call centre, not to mention a Which Best Buy for combined line and broadband, is the Utility Warehouse

I've been using Sky BB for 2 years now (16 meg with no fair usage policy) and I have never had a problem at all.
Can't fault Sky, they ring up every now and then just to make sure everything is OK.

Same here, i play games online professionally and phoned them to change some settings, job done, no complaints. At a tenner a month it's a great price too.

i would seriously consider O2 if i were you.

i use them at uni and not had a problem with them.

O2 contract customers get a discount as well.

im getting it dirt cheap because i got teh usual discount form them, and they took even more off. so if you sweet talk them you could get it cheap as well

i think im on the 15MB (maybe even 20) for a fiver a month!

i do regular speed tests (www.speedtest.net) and hardly ever get below 10MB

TalkTalk is the answer.

I'm with Virgin Media, on the 2mb (unlimited bandwidth) deal for £15.50 a month incl free weekend calls. I've been with them since last October and had no problems whatsoever so far. I've done speed checks and I get 2mb or even a little bit more. Seem to be very reliable from my experience so far, plus what I've read.

Also got a leaflet through the door recently, saying that I would be upgraded to 10mb for free! They of course use a fiber optic network (although not to individual flats/houses)

My folks use BT and have had a good service I believe. They're on the BT Vision option, so everything is done through them for about £30 a month I think.
TV, free landline calls anytime (free skype phones and modem/routers aswell) and 8mb unlimited line I think.

unfortunately exchange issues are fairly common.

we are having an issue with an exchange based in london at the moment, all ISP's running out of that are effected. changing ISP would not help you here.

well, saying that tiscali are tosh. i thought they were going under too?

TalkTalk is the answer.

Talktalk is the answer until you hit a snag. I think that they are all the same - great until there is a problem. Talktalk is pretty free(ish).

I think I read that Tiscali are currently suffering badly financially so whatever service they offer is unlikely to have loads spent on it.

If you can get good coverage, I have a 3 USB dongle that works well. Maybe a Continuity Plan for a tenner a month?

Chris

Telewest (Virgin) never breaks....ever

5 years and its only stopped once, when some dime bar put his corsa through the junction box at the end of the road..

I heard all about the problem with the London exchange when I called Tiscali, I was also a bit suspicious that Sunday, being the 5th, was the ned of the tax year - I was half expecting it to be on the news that they'd gone tits up

Talktalk are a :nono: as that's Carphonewarehouse and I hate them after they ruined AOL. I'm so far from the local exchange that the best I can get from anyone is 2mb, so I might have a go with the Vodaphone mobile package as it gives coverage not only there, but up at Knockhill too...

someone killed a BT coms tunnel in london.. wiped out half southcoast circa 70k users, not just adsl, but switched circiuts.. also knocked out emergency services for a bit.
Tunnel too dangerous for engineers to get down,
breif rundown..

This briefing on a cable damage incident in East London is for all Communications Providers.

Openreach can confirm that, following significant damage, by a third party, to cables in a deep underground tunnel on the afternoon of Saturday 4th April, a large number of end users in parts of East London are currently experiencing a loss of service.

A third party contractor has caused significant damage to one of our deep underground tunnels resulting in the loss of service to a large number of end users in parts of East London.

Due to the nature of the damage, which happened 32 meters below street level, and the restricted access to the site, it is not possible at this stage to provide an exact timeframe as to when service will be restored to all customers.

Because of the severity of the damage, the tunnel is completely blocked and to restore the cables they will need to be brought up to the surface either side of the tunnel and then routed over land through existing and new duct. The new duct is being built today as we gain permission to close roads and do the necessary work.

As a consequence of this large scale operation it may be some days before we see all services fully restored.

Openreach engineers are working extremely hard to resolve this situation and we have already successfully restored service to a number or affected end users in the early hours of Sunday morning using alternative methods of connection.

I've been with bethere now for almost a year and never had any problems, 24mb unlimited download for £17 with a 3month min contract

I'm with o2, after leaving Tiscali some time ago, and can highly recommend, I get a steady 16-17mb speed, service is good, no downtime in the year I've been with them, and no long waits for a response if you need support, cheap as chips if you bundle your broadband with mobile phone contract.

You will need to check if your exchange is wired for ADSL2 to enable 20mb speeds, this can be done via o2 website.

Have to say I've never had a problem with Tiscali in over 3 years. Got phone, TV and broadband from them. I do hope I've not tempted fate by saying that.

The speed is down, mainly, to the local loop which is BT's domain. When people get a speed boost by changing supplier it is usually that the new supplier has tweaked the setup which is something the previous supplier COULD have done had they been bothered. Tiscali have all the same options as any other ADSL/2 supplier but they never seem to be bothered. I only use Tiscali because I never need technical support (good job because they do not support the Mac!) and the total cost of ownership of phone line, calls and broadband is best with them at the moment. My bill for all three is about £30 ish a month with 7Mbit broadband (my line will not handle more)

My internet connection went down around 11 oclock saturday morning and came back at around 10.30 am this morning (mon) apparently there was a major outage somewhere which affected a few isps. normally I have no problems with my isp but this weekend was beyond their control.

Tiscali is the pits! Sent 'The Boys' round for an £8 bill that I paid 3 months earlier! Wouldnt touch em with the proverbial! On Be and chuffed with em!

I have a photographic memory that was never developed

cheers for the heads up, better let our showroom know in the morning then lol

Strange then that a decade or so with Freeserve/Orange gave a max of around 3Mb/s and a (traumatic) change to Tiscali at the start of this year gave me 5.2Mb/s on the same line.

On saying that, I thought I would just do a wee check and it's down to 2.9 Mb/s, probably sending some to that Flash fella!

I pay £20 a month for line, unlimited calls and broadband and their very poor Nohelpdesk. I knew all their names a few months ago, time for a re acquaintance perhaps.

I'd go with whoever's cheapest right now, don't have any loyalty to any ISP at all.
I thought Ticalis share dealing was suspended on the 10th March? Which didn't sound so good for any of their customers.

I've been with BT for quite a while on the assumption that as they already supplied the line I couldn't get the run around if I had problems, with the ISP blaming BT and BT blaming the ISP... it's just the same!

There are several things that can be changed and make a difference. There is a new active filter that you can buy for about £10 (some ISPs give it free) that filters out noise such as florescents etc and allows you to get nearer to the theoretical limits. It wont help everyone but will help a few

No, apparently Tiscali found wrong settings at the local exchange.

Amazing things they can do these days from thousands of miles away.

What really got up my goat was Orange offering half price rental for a year if I stayed with them.

Back up to 5.29Mb/s, I just love my friends in that call centre!

I'm in North Wales and with Tiscali 512kbs, Went down Sat afternoon, emailed Tiscali to be told "no problems our side" proceeded to reset router, modems several times ! emailed them again on Monday to be told eventually of this problem, been back on since late monday night with dial-up speeds, Re Tiscali's finances, rumors are that Sky's looking at taking over, Alan

Snap!!! Same here... I get a reliable, fast(20meg download, 1.3 meg upload connection) and I've not had any problems with it all all since my local exchange was enabled last year on the LLU circuit. I would never, and I mean never touch any of those services offered by Tiscali or CFW as if you get problems with your internet connection, your bound to start having problems with your phone line(voice side) as well which is why I have always kept my phone line with BT for voice calls, and my broadband with someone else rather than tying myself into an all in one package deal or even just opting to go with them for just the broadband side of things. It's been all on watchdog the other week with hundreds of unhappy customers complaning about loss of service and slow and impossible internet connection speeds etc.

ISP review is your friend!!;)

Mike.

Check out o2, we have just moved our service from Tiscali to them :)

I read last month that Tiscali were going bust and were risking the connections of their hundreds of thousands of clients. Not sure what eventually happened.

Gary.

That's why I was suspicious with the service going down right at the end of the tax year. I've got my MAC code now (and a grovelling apology from Tiscali) so time to start looking around....

My understanding is that some plonker digging foundations dug straight into the tunnel, knocking out some significant networks for major customers so this will be being treated with the maximum level of importance, the problem being the length of time it will take to actually fix it.

My friends in South Wales have been without a Tiscali connection since last Saturday. They are not best pleased !! I moved last year to Orange and not looked back. Best service I've ever had despite their position in broadband polls :D

Just moved over to 02 so far so good. No probs with previous supplier Plusnet but 02 offer worked out at £8 for 12 months. £8 per month on 12 mth contract 1st mth free as 02 mob user and £70 cashback through topcashback.
Check out quidco and tcb for any deals on your chosen supplier.
