I guess the "up to" bit is open to interpretation.....
I thought bt were bad. Do you normally get such a low speed?
If you then something is not right.

mines always like that fitp with tiscaliproper annoying and even more so when my dad wont ring them and cancel it and I cant fake it as its always a bit suspect when they ask for my dads dob and i have to shout to mum and ask her what it is
.

You will never get the full 8mbps, I usually get half that with AOL. A lot is to do with the contention ratio of the exchange. The number of people who share the line with you. Now mine has over 10,000 so its gonna get quite busy, sometimes down to half a meg a sec.![]()
e I finally ditched Virgin, who throttled me so often I started turning blue.
Im constantly downloading something, and they have never throttled me (touch wood!!)
When Virgin were good, they were really good. Unfortunately the last year of service was abysmal, which is a shame considering I'd been with them for 9 years.
I would ditch Tiscali if i were you (if you can obvs).
The telephone exchange is behind my mums house and she has only ever got 2mb
I rang up Tiscali and they said it was the maximum the line could support, I explained that she lived 10meters from the exchange but that obviosly wasnt on his script
She gets bang on 2mb at all time, never above so im thinking they have capped the IP profile on her line, which is generally what an ISP will do during the '10 day optimisation period' and raise it to whatever the line can support.
You try asking the indians to check what the IP Profile is set to.....
I ran a test last week and it was just a shade over 2mb, which is still crap, the "tech support" guy in India suggested I try running a cable between modem and laptop, so I did....and the speed dropped to 40kbps![]()
