To IS or not on the 24-105 !

Tomorrow I am off to the Prescott Hill Climb and will most probably have my 24-105 on my 5d Mk II....

I was going to try some slow shutter speed pan shots and do not know if it will be better to turn the IS off or not

If I use my 70-200 f4 IS I can set the IS mode switch to '2'

Unlike many long telephoto L's, the 24-105 cannot sense when the lens is panning (it has no IS mode 2). This means that the lens will treat panning as shake, and try to correct it. It can result is a stuttering affect whilst panning which adds nothing to picture quality and will hinder a smooth pan.

Best leave it off for panning shots.
