To zoom or not to zoom? Help needed

Hi Everyone

I own a quite old panasonic TZ5 10 x zoom and this has served me well enough for holiday / family stuff

I know that panasonic have launched a tz 40 the zoom of which will be 20X zoom and I have looked at bridge cameras / super zooms but the majority seem to have some compromise ie image quality or lower spec re video

I suppose if I was to be entirely honest I am still likey to be a 'lazy' point and shooter in the future and also pocket size for portability still attracts

Can anyone suggest any other possibbility re choice of camera my budget is around £300 or so

What is it that your current camera doesn't offer? Apart from pocket size and easy of use you really haven't given us much on your requirements. Do you want a bigger zoom, better low light capabilities, wide angle, panoramic capabilities, HD video, fully automatic, full manual, mainly auto with manual capabilities (example shutter settings, aperture settings, iso settings, bracketing). Able to take Raw images. Do you want lots of shooting modes, eg fireworks, sports, portrait etc.
 
I had a few Panasonic bridge cameras before I got my first dslr and I found them very good for ease of use and IQ. I shoot mostly aviation so the main problem was shutter lag in the early models but it had improved a lot, as had the quality of the EVF, by the time I had the last one which, for me was the Panasonic FZ40 in 2010. I can only think that the later models have further improved since and if I didn't have a dslr now I would certainly be happy with one of the newer models.
