Expensive but a great day, yes I know its a waste on money and I don't need it or will ever fulfil its potential and the D700 IQ is the same but I tried it out in Jessops and it just feels sooooo good I had to have one :D:D:D:D

Waiting for the battery to charge, its just damn torture!

D300 is going to be up for sale now, SWMBO is getting the D700 - she's happy, I'm happy, just a shame our savings account isn't looking quite as healthy as it did!

To add to that the 85 1.4 I've been lusting after arrived this morning too, thanks to PD's superfast delivery:cool:

Fantastic... ... good on yer I say PS... :D ... that is one beaut of a beast... and you can't take it with you... ;)

Enjoy... once the battery is charged... :suspect:

:p

OK, maybe not quite so good, took a quick test pic and the file number was not what I'd expect. Checked the shutter count with Opanda and it was 1366!!!

Just been shouting down the phone at the manager of Jessops, he told me it was new and the box hadn't been opened since arriving at the shop - and then tried some BS about shutter testing in the factory. Ok maybe for a few hundred but not 1300!

They are ordering me another one, got this one to keep and use until it arrives so not all bad - just not very impressed.

That's bad luck Phil; at least they're sorting it for you - now take loads of shots on your loaner!

Out of interest will you be listing the D300 here?

And then in a couple of weeks someone can post on here about a D3 they purchased as new, which had 2,000 shuttercount.

I think that's outrageous and Jessops should be called to account. Sounds to me like a display model which they would have been well aware of when they sold it "as new".

its pretty annoying - as long as they stick to their word and sort it in the next few days.

The D300 will be on here - its mint just need to check the shutter count.:)

They can get into a lot of trouble for selling used items as new, BIG fines from trading standards or whoever.

There was a story from PC world (i think) a while ago, bloke bought a PC then found letters on it from the previous owner complaining about it!!!

Was the box sealed?

You can sometimes get a false reading of the frame count if the cf card isn't formatted before you fire off a shot.

Not a waste of money if you can afford it.
Go on - enjoy it.
I'd love one.

box wasn't sealed, and there one one very obvious thumb print on the rear screen - which I asked about and was told it would have been just where it had either been checked or shown to another customer (which contradicts what I was told on the phone). I took their word for it, probably shouldn't have. The manager also told me on the phone that the camera had in fact come from another Jessops store. Nice.

Nice - that 85mm is the one lens I have always regretted selling and hope to get another one sometime next year.

I have just had a bad time with Jessops mail order. I came very close to canceling the order so read up on the terms etc. You can take any equipment you order (<14 days) to a Jessops store where they will refund you. It states the box must not be opened etc. but no doubt the staff will check it over. I don't imagine D3's are too well stocked at Jessops stores (esp the smaller ones) so they may move them around numerous shops before they are sold. Hope the new one turns up ok. I get my D90 on wednesday and will check the shutter count too and hope it is minimal...it's a long way to my local Jessops store from Brazil!

Nikon do test them to around that figure as its nothing to a D series camera:thumbs:

I've heard of this kind of thing a few times actually, and I can understand how it puts a bit of a downer on the excitement of the purchase. Good to hear that they're getting you a fresh one. Of course, as someone mentioned, it's likely that the one you have now will be stuck on the shelves again as new. It's definitely not on imo - there should be one demo body on display for people to play with I think. I'll probably be sure to check this kind of thing in future as I never have before.

I have to say, I really do like the feel of the D3 - although it's a pro body, it felt to me as if it was slightly smaller than the 1D3 body, which is a plus in my book.

Enjoy - looking forward to seeing some f/1.4 goodness!

If that be so then it may be good to compare what other 'D' series owners have experienced by way of starting shutter count...

:p

From what I understand when the manufacturer finishes testing they are able to perform a count reset so that the customer should always receive the body with a 'zero' count.

My guess is somebody at one of the shops has borrowed it to try it out, maybe even used it on a job over the weekend.

Well I used the D3 at the weekend and it is lovely, just spoke to the manager at Jessops and another one is on its way - should be here either today or tomorrow. I made it clear that if its not here tomorrow then I'll be bringing the camera back for a refund and he said that was fine....

The sensor on the D3 is filthy too, I'd bet someone has used this for a wedding on the sly.

Shutter count on my D700 (which came from the same Jessops) was 0....

At least you know you'll be pleased with the new one when you do get it Phil... :D

Someone on here, who shall remain nameless, keeps trying to talk me into one... :suspect: ...but even the D200 is gathering dust... ...so I fear it would just sit on the shelf with the others... ... what a waste... :naughty:

:p

Shutter counts on my D3x and D3 bodies (all via Calumet) respectively were:

0, 0, 0 and 0

No excuse for this - 1300...?
nahhhhhh.... someone's been playing with it on the weekends...

at least they're giving you customer service.
accountability is why you go to a shop

its why I use the high street and pay a little more more most expensive items!

had a call from the manager, D3 is on its way - he's got the courier tracking numer, should be delivered to the store tomorrow :D

I think I'd be inclined to make sure this intelligence enters the public domain if possible.
Complaining to Jessops head office would keep it in house and result in an anodyne incredulous "tut, tut, we're so very sorry" response.
Broadcast wider, however, (just the absolute facts,) might make them think twice about putting it back on the shelf and stitching up some other unsuspecting soul.

how do u check the shutter count?? i have opanda but not sure where it shows this info

I like to think that anybody buying a Pro Series Camera will have the ability to check the shutter count, and the sense to do it.

This is a fair point, 1300 shots could actually be a couple of weddings, or quite a few studio shoots, whose to say the camera hasn't been lent out to a pro and used on jobs or something, it's then essentially second hand.
You don't know how well it's been handled either, some people are not quite so carefull with stuff they haven't paid for, I think trading standards or somebody should check out how often this is happening.

It wouldn't happen in Guildford, Luke is an excellent manager and I doubt it's been lent out or anything like that.

What might have happened is that it was purchased by a customer and returned. Or possibly it's one that's been in the company for several months, accumulating plenty of shutter clicks throughout its life.

I seriously doubt it was lent to a pro from the Guildford shop.

As for Jessops head office lending one out to a pro due to a complaint about a broken camera, that's feasible.

.

Luke couldn't have done anymore, he phone me with updates when he said he would and even ordered a second D3 just as a backup in case their was a problem with the first.

It's a problem that shouldn't have happened, but the way he dealt with it was top notch.
