Yes
I had a bit of spare time on my own today so I set up to try out some lighting.

So, to start with, I set the head on the table and framed it with my Kodak, just to check that I was working the Kodak consistently (I struggled to take a couple of shots yesterday with The Kodak). I didn't have any dark slides loaded so I put the Mamiyaflex up and took a few shots of my dummy head, in various guises.

The lighting setup consisted of one lamp to light the background, see above, flagged to not include the head. I've got a small amount of aluminium flagging (heat resistant), so the rig didn't catch fire, as anything else might do. These lamps run really hot!

Then I added a light to the right to illuminate the head.

Actually got the last picture mixed up with this one - opposites! Here is the background light, the previous is the fully lit scene.

Anyway, for backgrounds for small to medium objects, a roll of heavy lining paper. Really cheap and easy to manipulate. Mine seems to have a yellowy colour cast but that doesn't matter if you are shooting b&w, which you should always.

When the films are ready I'll post some pictures.
