Togging Events for Experience?

Well, it's the summer and that means that there should be plenty of things happening. I was wondering how easy it would be to find an events company or something that I could 'work' for to get more experience. For them, they get a photographer (or an extra one), and I get lots of good experiences and hopefully photographs.

Does anyone know how to get into the event togging scene, or know of anything around the South Yorkshire area that needs photographers?

Thanks for any advice, etc.

If you just want experience of shooting events, put a post out on facebook for friends and any FOR SALE or community sites for your local area asking if anyone knows of any.

You can either pop along as a normal member of the public and practice, or email the organisers and ask :)

I was thinking this. The only thing I thought about being a member of the public was possible legal issues? If an event actually ok's me to do some shots then there's nothing which could come up. Also I wanted to ask what kind of events would be good to do this sort of thing?

Just turn up at your local track day/motorcross track/kart circuit/enduro event etc and start taking pictures, if your not selling them then there are no issues you are purely a spectator.

there's always a million tiny charity events asking for a photographer on gumtree...

Well I'm basically looking for any experience that is out of my comfort zone. I'm a Scout Leader and so have quite a bit of experience at shooting the scouts taking part in events, so other things would be good.

Maybe if any other togs were in the same area it'd be good to team up for something?

I guess it depends on what kind of 'events' you want to cover?

That's just what I always think when people talk about events, I was down at a Dragon Boat Race today, went to the agricultural show the other month, I call these events, or do we just mean the proms, the dinner dance scene, and local golf club presentation evenings and the like.
