Tokina 11-16: zoom ring is gritty?

Was working last night and all of a sudden the zoom ring on my Tokina 11-16 just didn't feel right. Is this likely to be an expensive fix or maybe theres a DIY option?

Nope, working in a nightclub - might have had a splash but I doubt this would have done it?
