Hiya,
Anyone have any suggestions as to which would be best for a mix of both interiors and landscapes? Have read a lot of reviews on the net and the tokina seems to come out best but a little unkeen not to buy nikon glass.. Am tempted by the range of the nikon but the aperture of the tokina.. any suggestions?
Any replies much appreciated as I'm going to South America in a week and need to order a lens by tomorrow!
Many thanks
Liz

The latest Digital Camera Magazine (Nov 09) reviews the Tokina, Nikon 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 plus others and the Nikon comes out on top. Maybe worth a read.

I have been using the Tokina 11-16 on my D300 and I am very happy with it.

I've had both and preferred the Tokina!

I have got the Tokina 11-16 and wouldn't worry about the quality; it seems better made than Nikon lenses of similar price. The only downside is the limited zoom range, its almost a prime lens with a bit of adjustment. Having said that it is f2.8 which you may find useful if you want to shoot interiors.

i am saving for the tokina 11-16

just wondering the cheapest place.... any ideas ???

onestop-digital do it for £401.79. It does come from HK, but they pay any extra taxes and the postage is free. It does mean that it is not covered by a Tokina warranty though.

i think i try and haggle with a good store of mine so i get the english tokina warranty,,,

Tokina offer an international warranty. You just need to find a seller on ebay that sends that through.
I bought mine from HERE for precisely that reason.

EDIT : Actually there is a Nikon fit one for sale in the classifieds :)

Mine is en route from them. Ordered Saturday and expected this Friday. Plus they give a further £8.04 discount for paying by BT.

Can't wait!

I have had the 11-16 and 12-24 Tokina and prefer the 12-24 due to it’s better zoom range. I always use it on a tripod at f5.6 or f8 so the f2.8 of the 11-16 is not relevant. The 12-24 takes great pictures the only downside is the terrible chromatic aberration. The CA is easy to fix in photoshop but a bit time consuming . The 12-24’s are a lot cheaper used.

Thanks to all for your help. I'm still no closer to a decision but this is the last day I can make a purchase to hopefully get delivery so I need to choose quick. Actually I think I have decided just wary about the tokina and the long term life. Bit worried about the CA on the nikon.

Kerso said he was getting the tokina in by the way if that helps anyone.

Started with an 18-200 vr. Got a 105mm nikon f2.8. Then the tokina.

The tokina feels more of a walkabout lens. Seems to like blue skies better than grey :) the flickr link at the botton has a set if pics taken with it.

I haven't had any problems with it apart from over exposure. I guess it's a quirk.

Picked it up from simplyelectronics (I think) around the four twenty mark.

Haven't used the nikon. If you have enough time and a dealer has both go n try them out for ten mins each local shots. Have a look at the pics and see which you prefer.
