tokina 12-24

I have heard that this lens can keep pace with its Nikon counter-part, is this true? I dont expect to perform exactly like the nikon, after all thats why you pay double the money for the nikon, but I have seen and heard that this is by far the closest to the nikon against all the other brands with this or a similar focal lenght.

Any insights would be very welcome.
Also pro and cons.

Check out pixel-peeper for comparison - should give you some idea... I've had a Tokina 12-24 in the past & also a Sigma 10-20... Out of the two I would say the Tokina :thumbs:

I was always very please with my Tokina 12-24. All the research I did at the time suggested it was the best wide angle for a cropped sensor in terms of sharpness regardless of price. I sold it when I went full frame but wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I needed a back up.

Andrew - have you done any geometric correction on those photos?

Not a barrel or pincushion in sight. :thumbs:
 
These were corrected in photoshop, but the beauty of the Tokina 12-24 it's very easy to correct. It would normally need about +4 on the distortion filter and everything is near to perfect. I don't think the Nikon or Sigma alternatives are as easy to correct.

They look preety good mate. Its only backing up what I have heard and thats great as I have really fell in love with this lens. Thanks mate

Consider the Sigma 12-24 DG as well, designed for full-frame and remarkably distortion free, even at 12mm.
