Tokina 16-50 f2.8: Opinions ?

Hi

I'm currently toying with the idea of getting a Tokina 16-50 f2.8 to go on 1Ds2 and 60D bodies as a walkabout. BTW, no-one locally has one for me to try out and they are not exactly inexpensive to just try out. The obvious alternative is the 17-40L but that extra stop offered by the Tokina is v.tempting.

I have read a lot of mixed reviews on this lens (CA issues etc..) and was wondering if anyone here has any opinions ?

Would, obviously, be particularly happy to hear from users.

I appreciate this lens is not a best-seller so do not expect to be inundated with replies.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Have just checked out theTokina site and indeed you are correct, albeit, this information is given in TINY print under the "Specifications" tab so was easy to miss.

Haha, no worries, I had to look the lens up too, and it was the only obvious thing that stuck out.

Noob mistake that on my part, not checking compatibility !

This is actually a real bummer since the 16 mm end would have given something nice and wide on the FF and at an effective 80 mm focal length it would have been useful on the crop.

FWIW, I desperately want to avoid ponying up a grand for the 16-35f2.8II, I have quite nice 14f2.8, 35f1.4 and 85f1.2 primes but wanted a "catch all" lens which would not cost the earth. The 17-40f4 is always an option but I really did want something a stop faster.

Hmmmmmmm....What choices now ?
