Does anyone own the "Tokina 28-70mm F2.8 ATX Pro SV" or has anyone used one and has an opinion? I'm considering buying one but I'm unsure if this is a good buy for £160.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I had one watch the age of it mine fell apart at the mount!.

I loved it for the whole week I shot stuff with it

I used one for a long time on a Nikon F100 and really liked it. Big heavy beast but great image quality - luckily mine didn't fall apart but I gather build quality was "variable"

However, if you're looking to use one on s digital SLR it may not be great as it's a prety old lens and not well suited to a digital sensor. There are fairly major CA issues with it.

It's tempting to take a chance on it as it comes with a bit of warranty and an approval period.

This is interesting. We had a rep from Tokina's UK distributors visit us yesterday, hoping to persuade us to stock Tokina lenses. One of the issues we had was that, except for a couple of unique lenses which they make (11-16mm f/2.8 and 10-17mm fisheye zoom), we've hardly ever heard of anyoone using Tokina lenses - and therefore have no idea how good they are, how attractive to punters they would be, etc. The lack of response to this thread seems to confirm that.

I've got the Tokina 10-17fisheye, its a great lens in my opion although i rarely use it now :S but sitll good lens when i do, cracking IQ and the AF isn't bad :).
