Now here is an interesting lens. I picked it up fairly cheaply on E-bay, especially for a Tokina F2.8 80-200 .
I am still playing with it but I thought I would make a few starting comments, and see if anyone has experience with this lens.
1st impression
I have seen comments on how this lens is built like a tank, and its a pretty good description. This is a solid lens to say the least, with an all metal body construction.
Everything moves freely, with very light resistance.
Noisy ! When focusing, both manually and with AF, its like I have a tiny little chainsaw of my own humming away every-time I focus. I can actually hear the gear merely spinning away.
The bit that you use to attach your lens to a tripod ( I cannot remember the name and couldn't be bothered googling it ) well it cannot be removed.
1st few pictures
Its not super fast, but its OK when it comes to focus speed.
It is quite capable in low light, and the only time I had trouble getting it to focus was when I shut the blackout curtains and even then I could still focus if I aimed at a point with contrast ( focus only on red bow in dark room just will not happen, at least not with this lens )
Noisy. Not unbearable but very obvious.
Image Quality : Since I have only take a few photos ( maybe 50 ) I still have to get a proper bearing. So far - 2.8 / 3.2 are very soft. 3.5 - onwards it starts to improve dramatically. 2.8 can be sharpened and cleaned, but straight from camera soft.
