Tokina lens - worth or not??

Dear all,

I'm looking for to get new/used lens in range of 16 to 70.
I've found a Tokina AT-X 165 PRO DX but couldn't find reasonable review about this particular lens.

Is it worth to buy the Tokina??
I would like to get sharp image and fairly fast AF, that's my criteria.

Any help highly appreciated.

I don't know about the 165 however I've got a 124 (12-24mm) Tokina in the same spec (Pro DX) and it's up there with my L lenses for quality - it's super sharp, lovely build quality and feels great on my 7D - AF works a treat too, however I do tend to use MF a fair bit, but that's because it's an UW lens and I mostly use it for landscapes

take your body with you to a shop and ask if you can take some images with the lens then have a good look at them at home if you think you need to, but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you buy 'blind'
 
What about a Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4 HSM DC, I know it doesn't have the constant aperture but is cheap second hand and a cracking lens if you can get hold of a sharp one.

Thanks Michael for you post. Do you have any sample photographs taken with 100mm macro, that is a lens I have been considering?

I have a Tokina 28-70 FD, which I have had for more than 20 years and it is a superb lens.

No samples as yet as I got it just before Christmas and just haven't had the time to use it :(

I'm meant to be doing some baby shoots soon so watch this space.
