Tokina AF 100mm F/2 Macro AT-X 100AF PRO D - Canon

is this lens a good alternative for the canon 100 macro?

or maybe this one

Macro lenses is one area of lenses that have very little difference in IQ between all the manufacturers, so whatever you go for it will generally give excellent results.
 
As the canon has internal focus it has a longer working distance to the Sigma, it also has better contrast and colour rendition , the sigma used to be excellent value for money but now you can get the canon for about £50 more its worth spending that little extra.
 
Remember for a similar price to the Canon you can get the Sigma 150mm Macro

Agree with that. I'm sure the Tokina is excellent, but I don't think it's f/2.

Tamron make very nice looking 60mm f/2 macro, which could make a good portrait lens for shallow DoF.
 
I have used both the Canon 100mm and the Sigma 105 with absolutely no difference in IQ at all and the Sigma is every bit as sharp as the Canon. I have the Sigma and don't find the external focus an issue at all.

I have owned both, originally had the sigma 105mm and after trying the Canon 100mm i swapped to the canon there's nothing in sharpness between the 2 but the Canon produces better contrast and colour rendition. The internal focus of the canon is smooth and quiet unlike the harsh body drive focus of the Sigma - A macro ring flash is more suited to the internal focus of the Canon and the build quality is in another league - The sigma used to be value for money now spend an extra few quid and get the Canon - youll get the extra back if you come to sell it.
 
I always manual focus my 105 so noise isn't a problem, I agree though it does sound like a tractor! Putting 2 images side by side after processing from RAW I could not see any difference in quality. However, the price difference is minimal and the Canon will hold its price. As the lens doesn't rotate when focusing i have no problem with a ringflash either. Internal focus is preferable though.
