Just wondering how best to stake a stab at capturing this really?!

I don't have a wide angle lens, I've got a 40mm nikor macro, the 18-55 kit lens or the tamron 150-600

Which one would be best for getting some shooting stars?? Thanks![emoji16]
 
Add fast to wide too and turn off the in camera noise reduction, tripod is essential too along with remote. Use your zoom, 18mm at its widest aperture, guessing something like f/3.5?

Going to have a crack myself, maybe 14mm, f/2.8, iso 1600 and about 20 secs. Think my camera has an intervalometer, never used it, but going to give it a go

Manually focus at infinity and fire away on continuous, well that's the theory anyway

Just added remote, simple wired one is fine or even better an intervalometer if you have one.
They reckon about 2am is the best time, but visible from 10pm

Been outside a few minutes ago, add cold to long I reckon

ive got a 19mm on a film camera thats been out there with the shutter open for an hour .just come in for some warm grub then its back out before the moon rises at 11,15 ish . some good ones flying already
 
Have seen quite a few - none through the camera yet[emoji25] but had to come in to recharge the phone that I'm using for the remote shutter, turns out not every advance in technology is a good thing! [emoji6]
 
at least my camera dosent need a battery ,i think it would have been dead by now ,,,,ive just come in to warm my toes again ,
 
Well just been and checked mine sadly suffering a fair amount of cloud, but this is par for the course with high activity meteor nights for me, I'm not lucky at all with meteors....especially as the forecast was zero cloud :(
 
Well I'm done - the phones dead again, the cameras dead and I'm not far behind them![emoji23] managed to catch one though! It's not great but for a first attempt I'm happy I got anything at all frankly!

Nothing special at all because the cloud magnate stuck again and the 100% cloudless sky as forecast soon became far from that :(

Well done Ferg, I didn't know what M42 was either.

Couldn't see anything when I looked about ten, very chilly and we had cloud come in later so nothing from me
 
300 photos and not a single one captured.. Bit like chasing the rainbow, saw some really spectacular ones but camera not pointing in the right direction... Then just before 2am the clouds came rolling in and that was it for the night... Bit disappointed but saw more than enough to make me happy.. Plenty of wishes made!
