I am totally new to DSLR world and have bought a secondhand D5000 hardly used. Kit lens. Cheap bag off ebay and a valbon tripod, so enough to get me clicking

I have joined local camera club and read a few books

It is my 50th birthday this year and I would like to put together a list of things I should be looking to buy

The 50mm prime lens is a given but beyond that I have no idea

so books, filters, bags flashgun - lenses under £150 and anything you can think off.

Thanks very much

I just hope I can resist buying them myself before Septembers big day....

Bare in mind the really cheap 50 f1.8 AFD won't auto focus on the D5000. If you need AF then look at either the AF-S 50 f1.8 or the AF-S 35 f1.8.

I would recommend you get a remote shutter release, you can get cheap ones of ebay for a few quid.

EDIT: What sort of photography are you into?

I love buildings, outdoor shots, plus snaps of the kids. I also work at an animal resue centre so will be taking animal pictures for company website
