Trade Sigma for Nikon?

I've got a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM mkii (non OS) ages ago since i couldn't afford the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR mk1 or mk2. Right now i still couldn't afford the Nikon 70-200 but i could sell the sigma or trade the sigma for the newer 80-200 f2.8 AFD (2 ring version).

Think the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 is an upgrade to the sigma?

I'm more into optic first then focus speed, if the focus speed on the 80-200 is not that bad then is alright.

Funnily enough I've just upgraded from the 70-200 HSM II (coming to a classifieds near you!) to a Nikon 70-200 VR1. Optically the Nikon is better but not massively so, the big gain comes from VR. I believe the 80-200 is similar optically to the Nikon 70-200. Check sizes as well as my Nikon 70-200 is far bigger than my Sigma one and I've ended up needing to buy a new bag as a result. Not sure where the 80-200 stacks up in that equation.

Personally I think I'd just stick with the Sigma, I'm not sure you gain a great deal, if anything going to the Nikon.
