Trademark my images

Morning fellow forum members. I've finally managed to get my images up on the forum and I've noticed that other members have a trademark ie joe blogs photography on their images. Can anyone help me in setting up the same function for my images please?

I usually add mine on, by loading into photoshop, adding the trademark then uploading them. Not sure if there's any other ways
 
Lightroom 4 by Adobe is a brilliant piece of software for cataloguing and post processing. In addition to all of the processing tricks you can do which previously needed Photoshop, it also has the facility to add watermarks and titles. These can be graphic or text. Go to something like

picasa 3 can do it and picasa 3 is free
 
First it's not a trademark, secondly it's a watermark and you've got clues above, lastly - why do you need it?
 
Just remember, like most software you may buy, you get what you pay for!

You have one - why do you need it?

For you I guess it's publicity - although from your website it's easily cropable - guess you just have to hope for inteligent clients ;)

Didn't mean to be derrogatory in any way - just wondering why you questioned him when you have one.

The same reason I question anyone when they say they 'need' something and appear to have given it no thought.

It's not just watermarks or websites. Why bother going to all the trouble of creating and adding watermarks without a reason? If the OP has a valid reason he's been given the advice he needs. If my question leads to him realising he doesn't need to bother, then that's useful too. Or my question might help him decide on the type and placement of the watermark (an important consideration).

I have written lots of posts advising on watermarks, right clicks and web galleries, I'll not bore you with the repetition.

Cool, personally I see no reason for it unless it's for self-promotion. In many cases I find it quite absurd tbh
 
Lots of free programs to do it, photoscape, faststone etc.

Reasons are wide and varied, as is the place to put it on and the reasons for that.

And not forgetting the usual one - It makes you a pro!! (Tongue in cheek) :D

I've been thinking about making a watermark recently as I've had a couple of requests from people asking me to do a paid job for shots and prints. With even a small one in a corner at least it's some recognition of my work.

After following Nick's tutorial and a bit of fiddling about I now have it sorted. I doubt I really 'need' it, but it's always handy to be able to add it to your work if you so choose.

Pay for software? Are you mad?

Just in case the OP did want to Trade Mark his image, this is done via the Intellectual Property Office. Costs £200.

Phil V. I don't need one I was simply asking an anyone help me in pointing me in the right direction on instructions to "watermark" my images. I'm sorry I called a trademark as my first post says I'm new photography so I'm not down with the lingo. Never mind hey thanks for your help

You misunderstood my 'why do you need one', there are clues in my answer to your online 'big sis'.

By questioning why you need one, you will either decide not to bother, or you'll decide exactly what it should look like.

Some watermarks are designed to prevent picture theft, some purely branding, some both. By working out your priorities you can design the best watermark for the job.

People often misinterpret answers like this to watermarks or websites as in some way arrogant. Thats miles off the truth, it's simply that most people haven't given enough thought to the options and their requirements.

OTOH it's the most common answer to the question 'recommend me a camera', and most people recognises it as helpful:thinking:.

Phil v apologies to you mate if I've offended. Like I said I'm new here.
 
I'll be my usual blunt self on the matter - as Phil has hinted, most people don't "need" a watermark at all, and wrongly assume that it will make their pictures look more "professional", when in fact, often all it is saying is "someone trying to look professional".
I find them an ugly and unnecessary distraction on what should be the best advert for your skills (the image itself) - I managed without the things for over 20 years as a professional, and see no reason for them at all - I associate them with the really low-end stuff churned out by the likes of the execrable "Olan Mills".........:cool:
 
Agree. Pictures look professional if they are good pictures, they don't need a watermark.
There is nothing worse than watermarks on poor photos as it just smacks of someone pretending to be something they are not. Unless they have a false view of their own talents and are akin to the X factor auditionee who really thinks they sound great?
 
I'm so glad I started this thread. I never mentioned NEEDING a watermark I simply asked about how do I go about placing one on my images. It's all getting a bit bitchy on here. Might take my ball in and play elsewhere :(
 
Well at least you know some of the pros and cons and messages a watermark can portray now as well as how to add one.
