Does anyone use these cards and how good are they? Was thinking of buying the 16gb 400x UDMA version.

I hope they are ok. I ordered mine on Monday (still not arrived) as all the reviews were good and they are substantially cheaper than the Sandisk equivilent! Will hopefully be able to let you know in a few days :)

Ordered mine from Amazon which seemed to be about the best price for the 16GB 400x cards. Very slow for delivery though! :shake:
 
I've been a trouble free user of Transcend 32GB 133X cards for over two years, so I'm quite happy with the brand. However, looking at the Rob Galbraith test results for the 40D vs the 50D I'm not at all sure that the 40D will take advantage of the extra speed these new 400X cards offer. e.g. for the Ducati 8GB card the 50D will crack out raw files at 33.7MB/s whereas the 40D trickles them out at just 11MB/s. Even with 133X or 233X cards the 50D pulls ahead and the 40D just won't shove files out as fast. It looks like the 40D will be a significant bottleneck, not the card, even a slower (and cheaper) one.

So i'd be better off buying the cheaper/slower card e.g 133X for my 40d?

Well, going by the Rob Galbraith tests that would appear to be the case. Also, unless you routinely fill the buffer and end up waiting before you can take another shot the card speed won't make a hill of beans difference while shooting. However, when it comes to downloading files to your computer you may well see that they transfer a bit faster, which could be handy if you have a pressing need to dump a card and then continue shooting.

Of course, in the future you may upgrade your camera and might be able to benefit from the faster speed when shooting - BUT ONLY IF YOU KEEP FILLING THE BUFFER.

Put it this way - I'm quite happy with my 133X cards for my 7D and 5D2 with their huge raw file sizes. But that's me and my shooting style.

Cheers for the info, im going to stick with the 133x cards then as i only ever fill the buffer when im at airshows and thats once/twice a year

I had a Transcend card a few years back, when I was using Canon. It failed, and I lost nearly 2GB images. I've stuck with Lexar, or Sandisk ever since. Maybe they've improved.
 
I have two of the 32GB 400x UDMA ones for my camcorder. I've had no trouble from them so far BUT if I was shooting something that was paid I might get a more pro set of cards. For the price Transcend seem very good.
 
We've got a whole bunch of the x133 cards at work that we've never had a problem with. Seem as reliable as the Sandisk Ultras, which we've also not had a prob with. Mind you, shooting JPEG on 20D and 30D bodies probably isn't going to test them.
 
Andy, just had an email from 7dayshop.com to say the 16GB 133x are on special at £19.99.
 
I've only ever used Sandisk myself, but Transcend are one of the brands I've been looking at this week as I need an extra card for my 350D.
I've got friends that having used them for a while without problem as well as friends that have had issues with them, but that's also the case for Sandisk cards. I think its ultimately pot luck. Generally they're all going to be reliable, but there will be some that go wrong, no matter what brand they are.

However, having subsequently read a few more reviews on the net and now reading what TDodd has to say, my next purchase may well be Transcend 32Gb 133x as it seems to do the same job - for less money.
 
I use two Transcend 4GB 133x cards and they are perfect on the 50D.
Certainly no complaints from me!
Funnily I managed to get them of ebay for a smidge over £5 a card which was the icing on the cake for me :)

Tims post relates to the 40D. I think you'd see a significant slowdown on a 7D

I bought a 16Mb card as I had a failure with a Sandisk card and needed a quick replacement and managed to pick one up locally, worked fine in my 5d2. I'm back to using Sandisk but I have the Transcend in my backup 40d.
