This is related to camera equipment as thats really the only thing of value i'll be travelling with.

Im going away monday and I want to get good insurance to cover me up to £5000 ish.

When I went to Prague I read through my insurance and I noticed it was terrible. For example if my camera got stolen I couldn't claim unless the camera was in my full view. Well how the hell is it going to be stolen if im looking at it, unless I was mugged. But it also didn't include mugging.

So id like some insurance that will cover me well so I don't have to worry too much if the worst was too happen.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

You'll struggle top get that type of cover under a regular travel policy and if someone does agree to do it they'll want a nice extra premium for the priviledge.

You might be better off buying specific cover for your camera gear if that cater fo travel?

Can you not get it added to your household insurance for items away from home, you'd probably have to specify the amount and maybe the individual itms.

You may have read my post regarding my recent trip to mexico!

I have returned with a smashed lens and possible damage to my D90, yet to be determined...

I have this covered with my household insurance which is unlimited for goods and possesions, however it stipulates a single item value of £3000 unless otherwise stipulated. Therefore I have a value of 3k for the body and the same for each lens etc. so more than enough for my needs.

I also have seperate travel insurance mainly for medical, personal items are only covered upto £250 per claim so bloody useless really unless I need a helicopter with a red cross on it, nearly did when I fell in mexico!

Specialist insurance will cost more because it is just that and there will be hundreds of clauses like the ones you have mentioned, hosehold is the best way with cover for possesions out or the home (All risks as it used to be called) thats assuming you have a house to insure!

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Kevin.

Forget travel insurance for this sort of thing.

Get good contents insurance - and make sure that valuable items are explicitely on it.

Also many credit cards offer theft or accidental damage cover - I lost a lens in a Lake a year or so back, and my CC refunded me.

I have mine with Norwich Union.

I've needed it twice, once for some camera gear loss (they arrange for Warehouse Express to replace it), and once for a bike theft (happens a lot in Cambridge), no hassle, and all done over the 'phone - no forms, and very quick settlement (had a replacement bike in 4 working days!)

Im thinking of changing my photoguard insurance for home insurance with HSBC they are going to give me a call soon as requested and then I will see how much they want to charge me :) and if there are any advantages :)

hmm was looking into this as well
and was just going to call photoguard lol
might look into contents insurance
thanks for the info

specialist photographic insurer wanted £192 for £3000 of cover my household gave me £5000 for £34 for the remaining 8 months.........
