Hey folks,

I am off to SA in March for a friends wedding and various other activities while I am there (10 Days).

Activities are likely to include, the wedding, a short safari, urban photography, penguins on the beach etc..

This will be my first time travelling with my SLR and I was wondering what you folks would recommend I take with me from a look after my kit, just in case perspective.

I will be taking:-
450D
2 x lenses with hoods and CPL's
flash + Sto-Fen
2 camera batteries
Multiple SD cards
Rocket blower
Chargers

Thinking about a Gorillapod to save taking a tripod

Any advice welcome

Cheers

Id probably take a couple more batteries.

Looking at that list of subjects...Everything - because you never know...lol

What about cleaning stuff etc.. ?

Total novice at this, what do people recommend?

I found this on sale on Amazon

hama lens pen

I obviously need one of these. I also have a rocket blower.

Any other advice on the stuff thats really useful on a trip?

Cheers

How about some sensor cleaning swabs and a sensor pen. your bound to get dust in from lens changes.

Take as much as you can!

I just got back from Cambodia where my camera kit comprised of:
Canon 40D
Sigma 17-70mm walkabout lens + hood
Canon 70-200mm long lens + hood
CPL filters
3x batteries + charger
Gorillapod tripod
LensPen
Flash
Remote trigger for flash
Remote trigger for camera

And for the wife:
Canon 400D
kit 18-55mm lens
CPL filter
3x batteries + charger
Remote trigger for camera

plus USB cable, at least 6x 4gb Sandisk CF cards and probably some other bits and pieces I've forgotten!

One thing that I regretted not having was some ND and Grad-ND filters as the sun was very bright and I couldn't get a slow enough speed for some of the longer exposures I wanted for certain shots.

Also, I've got a bag that I'm happy to use for my camera gear abroad since it doesn't look anything like a normal/branded camera bag... no reason to advertise all that expensive kit is there?!

Thanks incapete.

I will be taking a similar set of equipment.

I ordered an extra battery and charger and car charger kit all in one.

I have 3 x 8gb and 1 x4gb cards.... Still worried that this isn't enough...

I took a look at the filter thing..

if you do the lee starter kit + ring + Hitech ND .6 2 x .6 grads (1 soft and 1 hard)

That quite an investment = £173 delivered...

I guess its something I should look at if I am going to get serious with photography....

Thoughts?

If you know you're going to be able to charge batteries then fine but one advantage of the Canon grips is that they come with a tray that takes AA batteries. Handy if you're in the back of beyond - you can get AA batteries almost everywhere.

I would also recommend a rain hood/cape for the camera, it can come down pretty heavy in SA! Ewa Marine do a reasonable range.

How about some form of backup device; either a netbook , or one of the dedicated units like the ones made by Epson? Can never be too careful.
