Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a new tripod. I'm not a big tripod user because my one is a bit too bulky. I want a tripod that is always with me in my bag. Weight is less of an issue than size.

I have seen a tripod recently (i forget the make) that was about 30cm but when extended it is about 1.5m.

I know these tripod will not be the most sturdy but it is better than not having one when needed. Before I search online, i thought i would get your opinions first so does anyone have any recommendations for this kind of tripod?

First hand experience would be great?

Velbon Ultra Luxi or Maxi, I have the former and my daughter the latter

Well made, fold up small, light and surprisingly stable for the price/size, ideal for travel or strapping to a bag. Use mine with a ballhead, but my daughter uses the 3 way head it came with and haven't heard any complaints

Thanks for all replies.

I was looking at the Luxi/Maxi and i know for the price, i should not expect the world but what kind of kit have you used on these. It seems that anything over 200mm lens is getting a bit too much for the tripod..have you found this to be the case?

I have the Luxi F and used a 40D with Canon 400mm f/5.6 on it, didn't seem to be a problem and remained steady enough, think its a bit unreasonable to expect these tripods to support massive lenses though
