I am thinking of getting a compact travel tripod with a decent ball head, something decent in quality and will take the wobble off doing videos and things like that. I really would like a 3 legged thing, but they are way to much. I see giottos do a virtruvian tripod which folds down nice and compact, smallest being 32cm closed.

So any opinions on what you use would be a great help.

Just purchased a Manfratto Befree. Not realiy had a chance to use it but have set it up. I looks good and sturdy and fold down to a manageable size.
It also come with a useful shoulder bag for carrying it in. It may be worth you looking at one of theses.

Older model Gitzo G1158, folds down to 48cm and weighs about 1kg, has the newer style ALR leg locks which are much simpler/quicker to use

Surprisingly stable given its weight and small enough to fit in a rucksack, ideally would be taller without the centre column being raised, but compromises have to be made.
