travel tripods, which to choose with a budget of 80??

No brainer manfrotto, lite weight (less than 1kg), 3.5 kg max weight support, 3way head included......get it quick before they're all gone

Would carbon be easily damaged? Afraid that I might damage it while travelling, from knocks etc
 
I'm in the same situation as you. I need a tripod for travelling and I've been looking at manfrotto. But I'm worried it get damaged easily whilst travelling.
 
I'm considering of getting the hama and the manfroto and returning either one of it after trying them. could let you know how its like :)

What sort of treatment do you envisage? It's not going to break if you knock it against something. Carbon fibre is incredibly strong. It would probably break if you start smashing it against things and dropping heavy weights onto it from height and at certain angles.

If I knocked mine over it would not break- might scuff a bit maybe depending on direction of travel and friction after fall. If I swung it full force into a wall it would break but then so would an aluminium tripod.
 
Manfrotto all the way. Anything likely to damage the carbon fibre would certainly do a lot more damage to aluminium section.

Good to know! I was thinking something along the tripod falling flat while it is standing up or being hit while it is in my bag while travelling..

Looks like I am going to get the manfrotto one after all :)
 
Carbon Fibre is much stronger than you would think.

There is a video series Dom Bower did testing the strength of a Carbon Fibre monopod including hitting it with an axe and it still functioned afterwards, and using it as a weights bar to lift 120kg! Have a look for it on youtube or I will post it this evening.

Yeah, they're really strong but I wont be swinging mine like a baseball bat into a wall just yet:eek:- very unselfish of you to test it out for us though:D

just got the manfrotto. VERY pleased with the quality and the stability!
 
Have you tried smashing it off the wall yet to test the build quality & durability of the CF? :D
