Travelling on planes

I'm going to be travelling for an international job in a few weeks time, just wondering the best way to travel with a camera bag (Lowepro CompuTrekker) and a small bag with some clothes? Am I likely to have to check my clothes bag into luggage?

One of the flight changeovers is quite tight so would prefer if I could keep both bags on me and not have to wait around on it.

If anyone has any other advice feel free to post

It's really up to the airline what they allow so you're best checking with them. If you do have hold luggage it may be possible to check it all the way through to your destination. Again depends on the airline and regulations in transit countries.

I am hauling all my kit to Africa in a couple of weeks and have decided to pack non fragile gear in the hold (ie. batteries, chargers, cables, clothes etc. etc.) and then have a backpack in the cabin with me with just my cameras and lenses. This way, I might avoid a baggage handler launching my cameras at full velocity into the hold!

Don't let your camera equipment go in the hold:eek: I've never had a problem taking a shoulder bag plus my camera equipment on board.

Do not put anything in the hold that you do not want to lose! I know it sounds harsh / stupid but its true. Things that are fairly easy to replace can be put in the hold everything else keep it on/with you! Not just for the risk of breaking it but also for things being stolen out of the luggage!

I had a camcorder with me the last time we flew international and because it was on a strap around my neck it did not count as luggage :D

Should probably have made that clearer, if I was only allowed one bag on, I was keeping the camera bag as hand luggage and checking in the clothes!

Friend of ours went to China Last week, At Checkin Got Told Oh Sorry your Hand Luggage is too heavy,!

Opened bag took out 28-300L and 50D Body, placed them on counter in front of checkin agent, checkin agent weighed bag and said that fine now, friend put lens and body back in bag in front of check in agent, and walked away with a puzzled but happy feeling!

If a all possible I try to fly with an airline with no stupid weight restrictions on hand luggage. BA and Easyjet both have a sensible policy.
