Trigger the shutter from the PC via IR

Hi!

I have a Nikon D40 which supports remote trigger via an infra red remote. I have one of these remotes, but what I would love to be able to do is set up my PC to be able to trigger the shutter via its IR port so that I can set a time lapse going.

Is anyone aware of any software that can do this? I'm running 64bit Windows 7.

Have discovered that if you tether through LR (I used a 5DII with USB) there is a button on the tab that allows you to shoot from the PC. I would guess you would have to be set up on a tripod. (5 seconds for a RAW file to appear on screen). I am using a MacbookPro but the principles the same.

Just thought i would add..
 
The problem with using IR is that the camera will only wait for an IR signal for a maximum of 15 minutes. You'd be much better off looking at a tethered connection as Chris suggests. A bit of googling should find some free alternatives to Lightroom for this.

i can tether my D7000 into lightroom no problems but i have had a look on google for a wireless way of tethering to lightroom any got any ideas?
