Tripod advice, travelling

Hi,

I've never posted here before, but am hoping someone will help. I'm pretty inexperienced with my SLR.

In a few weeks I am embarking on a bit of travelling in the US and Australia/New Zealand.

I don't currently own a tripod, although having been meaning to invest in one for a while. The tripod needs to be portable, and probably want to spend £80-120.

I am wondering whether I should carry around a proper tripod, or maybe invest in an Gorillapod SLR + Ballhead thing. And if people think I should get a proper tripod, could they make an suggestions... So far I am drawn towards a redsnapper one but that isn't based on much.

Thank you in advance for your help!

How about taking a monopod? It might be easier to transport around on a longer trip.

Not much advice, but Redsnapper are excellent value for money

JIMC - Thanks for the advice

HoppyUK - thanks will have a look at that

kickstart - If the benefits of carrying a tripod around are worth it, I'm happy to do it I think.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Gorillapod SLR Zoom thing?

They are very good! I got one as a present and use it now and then. But not that cheap in the bigger sizes and I don't think the wrap-around-trees thing is actually very useful. And of course they are not very tall

Cheers mate, thanks for the advice. Still not sure what I will decide, edging towards either a redsnapper (will email their sales guy) or check out those travel tripods I guess.
