Hey guys, my first question on these forums!
I'm looking to buy a tripod that will lock down my 1d with canon 24-70 glass with little movement. It also needs to be pretty secure with a 70-200 2.8 that weight a fair bit. I was hoping to keep the budget a bit low as I don't really need any fancy panning options and fluid heads or carbon fibre/kelver doo-dahs, just something that goes to standing head height, can be weighed down and won't wobble around at these heights. Any suggestions?
 
If you don't want to spend too much the redsnapper has a good reputation, do a search and you will find the TP members discount code too.
 
I have Redsnapper alloy legs and ball head. With Nikon D3 and 24-70 2.8 or 14-24 2.8 it is just fine in landscape orientation. when flipped over to portrait however there is a small amount of droop from where set once the weight of the camera and lens are taken up. You therefore have to set a fraction from vertical for it to droop to vertical (if that makes sense) Once settled however it remains solid. For the money it's great value but if you do a lot of architectural work where accurate setting and total stability is required, a ball head probably isnt the best choice anyway really. I've not tried their 3-way head so I can't comment on that though.
 
If you're looking for a tripod that's quite rigid and multi-talented you might want to look at the Slik U212DX if it can be found at a good price (used).
