I've been looking about for a decent tripod that will hopefully do me for years. There's really so much choice and opinion out there that I'm completely stuck when it comes to picking something.
After making some investment in a good strap (carry speed) I'm needing an arca swiss attachment as the plate is going to be permanently attached.
The sheer array of heads and tripods and doubts on whether they are compatible (for example my current head is a different thread size to the tripod meaning an ugly and not-very-solid grub screw adapter)
I'm going to say it for saying it's sake, just in case it's not obvious. Ideally any recommendations be;
- Sturdy and as light as possible (I'm not desperate for a carbon fibre jobbie), without making it unrealistic to buy (i.e. really right stuff)
- The head should be a ball head - I just prefer these and obviously needs to be a good match for the tripod if it doesn't come with.
- Cost range... Well, this is the tricky part because I just don't know what I'd be prepared to pay. If someone says the old adage "you get what you pay for" and then says that I should be spending £400, then I will have to save the pennies and just go for it.
Camera is a Canon 70D and at the moment the heaviest lens I have used is an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM (yes it was a hire, but one day I'll own something like this!!), so the tripod and head needs to be pretty rock solid.
I hope this doesn't turn into a brand slanging match - I just want a few honest opinions and recommendations from personal experience in order to make a purchase!
Thanks!
