Tripod Bag or Strap?

Swings & round-abouts... The bag protects from scratches whilst storing but then you have the hassle of taking it out of the bag to set up where as that strap is easy to set up but doesn't offer any protection against the elements...

:thinking: Me personally - I'd go for the bag, but then again thats just me... :$
 
I have the slightly smaller 190XProB + 804RC2 head

I have the Bag for carrying in the car & storage, but when out walking I use the tripod straps on my backpack (Lowepro Nature Trekker II) to carry it. I also have the MN-458HL strap attached for easy of carrying short distances!

The bag is great for protecting the tripod (and protecting things from the tripod!), but is, for me, too bulky for general carrying.

If you don't have a backpack with tripod fittings then the shoulder strap may be the best option.
 
I have a bag for my Gitzo which cost a ridiculous amount, and I never use it - not even for storage. I always carry my tripod in my hand, but I'd choose a strap over a bag any day - much less hassle than putting it in and out of the bag.

I'm pretty careful about my gear and that includes the tripod, but it's one bit kit I don't molly coddle, it's a tool and if it needs to get dumped in the brambles to get the shot - in it goes. :D
 
The Manfrotto MBAG80 has a huge padded section at one end which makes it very bulky - I had one and swapped it for a Gitzo bag which is far less cumbersome. (GC2100 I think).
