Tripod for DSLR + Camcorder

I am looking for a tripod that can for the time being double up for my DSLR and camcorder, both heavyish.

I have a Giottos 8350B at the moment but the one big drawback is that it's not all the stable compared to other tripods. This seems to be mainly because the legs don't spread that wide. I had a look at some Manfrotto tripods in a shop and the legs opened much wider and the felt quite a bit steadier.

The one that seemed really good was the Manfrotto 055CX3 http://www.manfrotto.co.uk/product/8374.58969.83534.0.0/055CX3/_/055_carbon_fibre_3-section_tripod

I am thinking of maybe a 701HDV head to go on it.

Any others I should look at?

Anyone used a 055CX3?

Hi Andy,

I don't have that specific tripod, however do have the Manfrotto 055xProB. I came from using a really cheap tripod so this one really impressed me.

Its quite a bit cheaper and heavier than the carbon fibre one-maybe this is a benefit if you are after stability?

It also has the horizontal centre column if thats a feature you quite like.

Sorry I cant be more specific, hope that helps somewhat.

Same here. Great tripod. It's been a real workhorse for me having put up with some real abuse - standing in the ocean etc. I use it with the 322RC2 ball-joint head, which is really good.

Although I've used the setup for camera work I would invest in a better head which would allow for smoother panning.
