Tripod for Landscapes/Sports

Hi, I have been teaching myself photography for a few months now. Started with a Nikon d3100 before moving on to a Canon 60D.

Recently I have been trying to find a decent 'all rounder' tripod costing around £70-£100. When I say an all rounder I mean in terms on Landscapes, Portraits, Sports etc. I know for sports I would be better with a monopod, but I seen this 2 in 1 tripod/monopod on ebay for £100, it seems to do everything I need it for, and also looks good. Only thing is, I am not sure of the name as it isn't the usual 'Brand' name that people go for. I have posted the link below, has anybody had any experience with this make/brand or know if they are worth the £££ or not. Also, is there any 2 in 1 tripod/monopods out there for roughly the same price but with a more regular brand name?

Unless you are using big, heavy lenses I would recommend you steer clear of a monopod for sports.

Any tripod can be used as a monopod, you just extend one leg instead of three.

Look at redsnapper for a good brand, their 283 + ball head combo is about £100 and remarkably good.
 
I also use a tripod for sports, I just leave the three way head lose so that the camera can be moved in all directions quickly, whilst still keeping the camera reasonably steady.

Sweet, I need something that is smooth at panning also. Hopefully someone has some experience with the one in the ebay link, so I know weather to purchase or stay clear. The Red Snapper one looks good as well though.
 
Think I am sold on the Red Snapper 283 with Ball Head, I have been reading through the TP forums and it seem's to be a great piece of kit. Also read that there's a guy called Joe on here that gets you 10% off:wave:, now...where can i find this guy:thumbs:
 
Like you I do quite a bit of panning, so I find by tightening the vertical knob on a 3 way head, I'm left with a camera/lens that will flow from left to right smoothly. But I guess it is what you get use to using, others may well prefer the ball head for it's ease of movement in any direction.
 
I'm partially disabled, so I use both. A Manfrotto 190X ProB with a ball head that has 3 adjuster knobs. It will take up to 5kg. Also it isn't too heavy to carry. The monopod is a Manfrotto 460 with a pan & tilt head. I modified it with 'hide away' tripod feet for extra stability. I'm delighted with them.
 
I got a Redsnapper RS-283 with a RSH-528 head last week.

The tripod is excellent. Very robust and steady. Centre column has a hook to attach a weight/bag to increase stability.

The 528 head is also very steady and perfectly functional, but I feel it just a little bit cumbersome to use (I feel that the two handles could use being a little longer). Probably get used to it with time.
