Tripod for walking/general usage under £100

Hi, So I am looking for a new tripod for under £100 which is small and lightish! (I know its a challenge!) I have been looking at Hama 00004214, Jessops Major Carbon Fibre, or the redsnapper 284 Alloy 4-Section with RSH-61 Ball Head. Anyone use either of these or have another recommendation? I am really only just starting out so don't need an all singing one! Cheers
 
Looks nice, but is around 0.5kg heavier than the jessops or rednsapper one which is a shame! I know its only 0.5 but it soon adds up. Maybe I could swop the head on it
 
Read the wrong weight bit!!!do you think one of the red snapper ballheads would fit onto it?just quite like the built in level.

I've not tried taking the head off mine, although I would imagine it's one of the two standard screw fits, so may be OK. The Velbon has a spirit level with the head as well.

I am planning on getting the Joby Gorillapod ballhead for my Gorillapod SLR zoom, and may try that on my Velbon to make it lighter when travelling.
 
Well, I'm happy with it, and did quite a bit of research before buying. The other one I looked at was the Slik Sprint Pro, but LCE stopped stocking that one, but then I saw the Velbon in there.

You do have options for similar features. It's just what's available at the time. Happy hunting!
 
How stable do you find it with the.legs fully out?looking at the maxi version.did you look at the differances?only one I could Fi.d is the luxi is slightly taller.
 
Perfectly stable enough to support my 450D plus 70-300 lens. The head locks solid and the legs are sturdy. I didn't look at the Maxi.
 
I know Ill get shot down here but I honestly wouldn't go for a light weight tripod at least not the legs.

I've got a set of slik pro 700 legs that come in at 2.6kg and a redsnapper 61 ballhead which is new. The legs however have served me very well over the past 2 years (nearly 3) and have been everywhere with me they've survived countless sand and sea trips and have only been cleaned/serviced every 6 months. They show there age yet keep going I've used them as support climbing up hills you name it and when its gale windy there like an anchor for anything I throw on top.


I was thinking of going carbon fibre this year but tbh Id be too scared of breaking the damn things and they wouldn't stand up to the wind like the pair I've got now (aluminium/titanium/magnesium.)
 
As we speak Manfrotto have a deal on one off there carbon fibre models with a head included for a reasonable £99 I think It's running till January,hope this helps.
 
Have the redsnapper 283 / rsh 61, not the lightest combo but remember it comes in a very good bag with elasticated strap and does not feel that heavy when on your shoulder.
 
How small does it pack?I'm ordering a snapper duo tomorrow so hoping to strap it to that.its why I want a small one.
