Tripod head compatibility

I currently own a Manfrotto tripod and head, I am considering purchasing a lightweight compact tripod, in my local shop the guy advised as I already own a manfrotto head then I would need to stick with Manfrotto as the heads will only fit to the same make tripod.

Is that right ? :shrug:

As long as the thread size is the same you can mix and match.

Chap is talking balderdash, I use both Cullmann and Giottos heads on my Manfrotto tripod

Might find the compact tripod has a 1/4in thread, but you can buy an adapter that will step it up to the 3/8in I suspect your Manfrotto has

Thank you Phil and Rich that was my initial thought if the thread is the same then it should fit, the statement he made made me doubt my thoughts

Phil most people hang a bag to gain stability looks like she is having fun though
