Tripod head for Gitzo 1541T

I've got the Gitzo 1177M on mine with a Manfrotto 323 RC2 QR plate on it, works well and it's nice to have the head that matches the tripod. It's lightweight and fits between the legs when they're folded up, I think anything too heavy and bulky defeats the point of the traveller tripod. I got the 1177M on Ebay for £40 and the QR plate was about £25 I think.

Benro J-1 would be my choice for that tripod (I have a J-2). Same quality as the Korean Markins, but made in cheaper China. Or for a bit less money the B-1. Recommended ebay dealer here http://cgi.ebay.com/New-BENRO-Profe...-EMS-Ship-/270577185486?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0

The RedSnapper RSH-12 is also very good, and exceptional value at £50. Giottos ball heads are also very good.

All these heads use the (almost) universal Arca-Swiss QR system.

Arca-Swiss is a long established brand that first introduced the 22mm dovetail plate and clamp quick release system, which has now been adopted by most of the high-end tripod accessory manufacturers.

Arca-Swiss are quaint in that they don't have a website, but you can get their original stuff from here, amonst other dealers http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/products.asp?PT_ID=326
