I have a giottos 9351B tri pod, with a giottos 5011 head fitted.
This has served me well, the tripod is sturdy and does the job I want it too but i find the head to be a pain in the butt to set and also its not that sterdy with the heavier lens fitted to it.

I was looking at t getting a geared head specially manfrotto 410 junior.

Will this head fit the tripod ok

And what is your views on sturdiness and useability for head.
It will be used mainly for indoor use and also landscape.
I have a ball head for other uses so all covered there.

Yes if the screw is 3/8"ths on the tripod then it will take the 410.

Overall it feels quite a well engineered head, I haven't experienced any play and it is precise if a little slow to position. Although I say a little slow, it is usually quicker overall than a 3way or ball as you don't need to go back again if its just a little off due to creep or user error.

It excels at landscapes, verticals/horizons etc but its bulk is noticeable if you would normally carry a ballhead. Also indoors for macro or static subjects then again it perfroms just as good without the weight penalty inconvenience of lugging it about.

I haven't used any premium heads that are sometimes discussed so any creep etc I am referring is in the sub £100 market.

Looks like it will be the 410 for me then, my tripod has a 3/8 thread so all good there.

There was a thread recently about the 410, maybe some of those guys will be along with their input too.

The quick release plate (rc4) is quite large. It depends what you already have and are used to I guess. I preferred the rc2 plate from my ballhead I had so got an adaptor. :thumbs:
 
I think thats the trouble with the head I have the plate is quite small so movement is easily achieved
 
I think the general consensus is the bigger rc4 is more solid.

I actually bought a spare rc4 plate and screwed it to the underside of my macro rail. Being able to clip the rail onto the head in one go when required just speeds things up and makes life easier too.

I didn't know you could convert the monfrotto 410 to a kirk/arca clamps
Do you have a link on were to buy please?
